September 28, 2018: Despite missing about two months with a broken wrist, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees will finish the 2018 season with the top-selling Majestic MLB jersey, matching a feat he accomplished last year during his rookie campaign.

Two rookies this past season arguably made the biggest impact in jersey sales and are among the leading candidates for Rookie of the Year honor in their respective league: Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, with the No. 8 top-selling jersey and Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. at No. 20.

Ohtani, a throwback player who evoked comparisons to the early career of Babe Ruth, came over from Nippon Professional Baseball's Pacific League in Japan and started ten games as a pitcher (4-2, 2.86 ERA) and appeared in more than 100 games as a batter, hitting 22 home runs with 59 RBI and a .283 batting average.

Unfortunately, Ohtani will undergo Tommy John surgery during the first week of the off-season to repair a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He is not expected to pitch again until 2020, but could return to the Angels as a hitter in 2019.

Acura Jr., who doesn’t turn 22 until Dec. 18, played a key role in leading the Braves to their first National League East title in five years. In doing so, became the youngest player to make the Top 20 top-selling jersey list since these rankings were first shared by MLB and MLB Players’ Assn. after the 2010 season.

The list is based on sales of Majestic jerseys from, the official online shop of Major League Baseball, since Opening Day 2018.

Sales figures were not disclosed.

José Altuve of the defending World Series champion Houston Astros had the second best-selling jersey behind Judge up from No. 10 in 2017.

The Chicago Cubs placed three players among the Top 7: No. 3 Javier Báez, No. 6. Anthony Rizzo and No. 7 Kris Bryant.

The Top 5 also included  No. 4. Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers and No. 5. Mookie Betts of the Boston Red Sox.
