K-Swiss Signs San Querrey To Endorsement Deal; Is Melanie Oudin Next?

(Photo: BEST)November 11, 2009: Footwear and sportswear brand K-Swiss has signed tennis star Sam Querrey to a multi-year deal, effective Jan. 1, 2010. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Querry is currently ranked No. 24 in the world, the second highest spot for an American tennis player behind No. 6 Andy Roddick. The 22-year-old Querrey has a deal with adidas that is expiring. His other endorsement deals include Olympus, Prince and Zappos.com. He is represented by BEST.

BEST also represents teenage tennis star Melanie Oudin, whose deal with adidas is said to expire in 2010. Analysts said that Oudin would be a good fit — and a major coup — for K-Swiss, whose tennis roster also includes Alona Bondarenko, Kateryna Bondarenko, Vera Zvonareva and Anna Kournikova.

Querrey, who advanced to the third round at the 2009 US Open, joins Mardy Fish as the second male American on the K-Swiss roster. Querrey will represent K-Swiss footwear and apparel in marketing and personal appearances and will also contribute to the "collaborative design process for the brand's future performance product," according to the company.

Querrey, who grew up in Thousand Oaks, Calif., located just north on 101 from K-Swiss' headquarters in Westlake Village, is currently the youngest-ranked American player in the top 50. He holds two ATP titles, most recently the LA Tennis Open title in August 2009.

"Sam is going to be a big part of our brand, nationally and internationally," Erik Vervloet, K-Swiss sports marketing director, said in a statement. "Not only is he a terrific kid with a huge game, but he also embodies the spirit of K-Swiss' California sports heritage. We look forward to having Sam with K-Swiss for the remainder of his career."

According to Querrey, "I've always wanted to be with a brand that I could feel like part of the family.  I grew up a mile from their headquarters, so I feel like I'm at home with them. K-Swiss is truly interested in making the best products for me and involving me in the process. I look forward to working with Mardy Fish to grow the K-Swiss brand in the U.S.  I'm looking forward to working with them and developing the best tennis brand in the world."
