Kevin Durant From The Hospital Post-Achilles Surgery: My Road Back Starts Now

June 12, 2019: Kevin Durant confirmed today that the injury he suffered on Monday night during Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors was a ruptured  Achilles in his right leg.

He also said he had undergone surgery for the injury.

“What’s good everybody I wanted to update you all: I did rupture my Achilles. Surgery was today and it was a success, EASY MONEY,” the All-Star Warriors forward posted to his Instagram account along with a post-op photo of him in a hospital bed in New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.

“My road back starts now! I got my family and my loved ones by my side and we truly appreciate all the messages and support people have sent our way.”

The game on June 10, a 106-105 Warriors victory, marked Durant’s first time in action since May 8 when he suffered an injury to his right calf after playing 32 minutes in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets.

The Warriors won that game, took Game 6 without Durant to win the series, and then swept the Western Conference Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers, also with Durant sidelined.

Durant missed the first four games of the NBA Finals, with Toronto taking a 3-1 lead.

In the game on Monday, Durant played played 12 minutes, scored 11 points and had a pair of rebounds. He suffered the injury in the second quarter.

“Like I said Monday, I'm hurting deeply, but I'm OK," Durant wrote on his Instagram account, which has nearly 11 million followers. "Basketball is my biggest love and I wanted to be out there that night because that’s what I do. I wanted to help my teammates on our quest for the three peat.”

Durant also looked forward to rehab and the rest of the NBA Finals.

“It's going to be a journey but I'm built for this. I’m a hooper,” he wrote.

“I know my brothers can get this Game 6, and I will be cheering  with dub nation while they do it.

Among the words of encouragement Durant received to his Instagram account, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wrote. “You will be back better then ever....I have no doubt!!! “

Actor Kevin Hart offered, “Get well soon 35....The game needs you champ!!!!”

And Odell Beckham Jr. of the Cleveland Browns posted, “EASY KING.”
