Kobe Bryant, James Harden Leading New Art Of Sport Brand Into Skincare Category

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

October 3, 2018:
Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Javier Báez and Juju Smith-Schuster are among a group of athletes who have attached themselves to a new body and skincare brand, Art of Sport.

Bryant said he is a founding partner, who will “advise on all aspects of the business with a focus on brand-building and storytelling.”

Among his other post-NBA achievements, Bryantwon an Academy Award this past March for his animated short film, Dear Basketball.

“My mentality is to always rise and compete,” Bryant posted to his Twitter account.

“That's why I'm a founding partner of Art of Sport — a new brand helping all athletes feel and perform their best through performance-driven body care. Proud of this team. Proud of this challenge.”

In addition to Harden (Houston Rockets), Báez (Houston Astros) and Smith-Schuster (Pittsburgh Steelers), the initial group of athletes backing Art of Sport also includes pro skateboarder Ryan Sheckler, pro surfer Sage Erickson and world champion motocross and supercross racer Ken Roczen.

The debut product line includes deodorant, antiperspirant, Hair + Body Wash, Body Bar, Sunscreen and a soon-to-be released ultra-strength Recovery Cream.

Initial multi-media marketing support includes an intro spot, “Born for More,” Internet and social media.

Art of Sport was founded by entrepreneur Matthias Metternich “to address the skin care needs of the modern athlete.”

"Everything from what athletes wear and consume to how they recover has continued to evolve," Metternich, who also is CEO, said via the company.

“We didn't see anyone transferring that same level of innovation and consideration into what athletes apply on their skin. By working with the best scientists and best athletes, we've created body and skincare products that can keep up with the performance needs of athletes at all levels."

According to Bryant, "An athlete, at any level, is always focused on how to improve.

“With Art of Sport, the goal is simple – provide innovative body care products designed for sports performance.  We brought together the best minds in skincare to develop products that allow athletes to stay focused on competition."

Products are available through Amazon and the Art of Sport Web site.
