Landon Donovan Adds EA Sports 'FIFA Soccer 11' Cover To Post-World Cup Feats

August 11, 2010: Score another goal for Landon Donovan. The man acknowledged to be the best American-born soccer player in the world has landed the cover of EA Sports FIFA Soccer 11, which is scheduled to hit stores on Sept. 28.

Donovan will share the cover with two other world-class players: Real Madrid’s Kaka and Arsenal’s Carlos Vela. Donovan, who plays for the MLS Los Angeles Galaxy, had a break-out showing with the U.S. National Team at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, scoring three goals and leading the U.S. to the group of 16.

“Landon is the most recognizable, popular and accomplished soccer player in the United States and he was at his best with the world watching during the 2010 FIFA World Cup,” Matt Bilbey, vp-soccer for EA Sports, said in a statement. “After his FIFA World Cup performance and the season he had with the Galaxy last year [when he was named MLS MVP] we felt he belonged back on the cover of FIFA Soccer 11.”

Donovan is appearing on the cover of this videogame franchise for the third time. He was also on the cover of FIFA Soccer 2003 and FIFA Soccer 07 in North America. This is the first appearance for Kaka and Vela. Donovan's other endorsement deals include Visa, Gatorade, Nike and Flo TV.

Marketing support will include print and Internet, with a dedicated section at EA Sports Facebook page offering exclusive content and consumer interaction.  FIFA Soccer 11 includes several new options, include "Personality+,"  "Pro Passing" and "360° Fight For Possession." FIFA Soccer 11 will be available for the PlayStation3, Xbox 360, PlayStation, Nintendo DS, PS,  iPhone and Wii on Oct. 4.
