Le Tigre Takes Guerrilla Swipe Evoking Tiger

April 8, 2010: Le Tigre clothing will use a guerrilla marketing effort playing off the situation involving Tiger Woods to get the word out about its men's and women's golf polos.

Le Tigre said it would unveil this week a billboard in New York to coincide with Woods return to pro golf at The Masters in Augusta, Ga. The billboard, located on the West Side of Manhattan, will feature a red Le Tigre golf polo with the text, "Golf's Original Tiger.  For Those Who Play A Round."

This is the second Le Tigre Tiger-related billboard. In December, a billboard featured the slogan "Golf Needs a Tiger. Let's Get Back on Course."

The new billboard will be up for the month of April.

According to a company spokesperson, the guerrilla effort has a significant degree of altruism. "You may be thinking that Le Tigre is capitalizing on Tiger Woods’ much publicized fall from grace," said the spokesperson. "But Le Tigre will donate 100% of net profits from the online sales of all polo shirts to organizations that help young people get on course and stay on course."

The effort in December donated 20% of net profits of all polos to, a group that uses golf to provide learning facilities and educational programs.

The Le Tigre men's and women's golf polo retails for $32 and is available online at
