Livin ' The Dream: LeBron Gets Animated On Cartoon Network's 'Teen Titans Go!'

By Barry Janoff

February 4, 2016: Last June, while the Cleveland Cavaliers were playing the Golden State Warriors in the 2014-15 NBA Finals, an admittedly weary LeBron James said during a media conference after Game 3 that he was not sleeping well, instead staying up to watch late-night TV.

"Obviously I'm not getting much sleep," James told the press. "You guys can see I'm not getting much sleep right now. But I'm OK with that. . . . I watched Chopped (on the Food Network) and then Teen Titans Go! (Cartoon Network) after that at 2.30 in the morning."

Apparently, the people at Cartoon Network and creators of the humorous animated show Teen Titans Go! were listening.

On Feb. 11, as a lead-in to NBA All-Star Weekend, James makes a guest appearance on Teen Titans Go!, which follows characters from DC Comics when they were teenagers: Robin,  Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy.

James appears as himself in an episode called "The Cruel Giggling Ghoul."

The show will air in tandem with an NBA-themed episode of We Care Bears during what Cartoon Network has dubbed All-Star Jam Thursday. We Care Bears will include the voices of James' teammate Kyrie Irving, Paul George from the Indiana Pacers and Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Cartoon Network is a sibling to TNT, and TBS, which will air events from NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto, including the All-Star Game itself on the evening of Feb. 14.

The plot of the episode finds the five Teen Titans in a story that mimics the theme of Scooby-Doo, with the heroes seeking to solve a mystery at the Wacka Doodles Amusement Park.

James first appears dancing in the opening credits, then later in the show, including a scene in which he is dressed in a mascot outfit that resembles a cat-like creature.

According to Cartoon Network, James is the first NBA player to appear on the show, which is now in its third season. He also is the first person to voice himself on the show.

He is, however, the second celebrity to appear on Team Titans Go! as an animated version of Michael Jackson made a cameo in an episode last season, "Real Boy Adventures."

In his main scene, James at first to be a monster, but in keeping with the Scooby-Doo theme, reveals himself to be human.

"There's the Ghoul!!! exclaims Robin as they explore the Wacka Doodles Amusement Park.

"Relax, it's just me, superstar LeBron James," James says as he removes the head to his outfit.

"Why are you wearing that costume?" asks Raven

"I found it in one of these lockers," says James. "Man, I've always wanted to be a mascot.

"Why would you want to be a mascot?" asks Robin. "Everyone loves you."

"Players get the glory," says James. "But the mascots get all the laughs. Check me out,"

He puts the costume head back on then goes into a goofy dance routine, chanting the words, "Wacka-wacka-wacka." Then, picking up a basketball, he says, "I'm going to dribble over there."

He moves off-screen, chanting, "Dribble, dribble, dribble," as a laugh track plays in the background.

There was no word from Food Network on whether or not James would appear in an episode of Chopped.
