NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

March 9, 2019:
Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who had a Hall of Fame playing career with the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, has signed what he is calling his “first exclusive long-term memorabilia partnership.”

Johnson has joined with Press Pass Collectibles, a division of Bell Sports Marketing, to become the “sole distributor” of his autographed collectibles. and to handle “retail and wholesale opportunities for upcoming public and private Magic Johnson signings, as well as corporate signing appearances and custom corporate autographed items.”

Financial terms of the alliance were not shared.

"We are thrilled to welcome Magic to the PPC family," Kyle Bell, PPC president, said via the Scottsdale, AZ-based company.

"We have worked with him many times over the years and this exclusive long-term partnership was a natural next step to protect and grow the Magic Johnson autograph brand."

The PPC site will offer officially licensed Magic Johnson signed items including signed basketballs, jerseys, photos and other items.

The second high profile addition to the PPC family in recent years, with Johnson joining actor/comedian Chevy Chase as an exclusive PPC memorabilia client.

PPC also works with such former athletes as Mike Tyson and Dennis Rodman; and includes in its offerings signed items from Hollywood and presidents.

Magic’s long-time teammate, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, recently put a large part of his personal memorabilia up for auction with Goldin Auctions, talking in nearly $2 million with much of the proceeds going to Abdul-Jabbar’s SkyHook Foundation, which helps kids learn about science, technology, engineering and math.

Johnson played college ball at Michigan State and then spent his entire 13-year NBA career with the Lakers.

Johnson won  five NBA championships, three NBA MVP Awards and played in 12 All-Star games.

He was a member of the famed “Dream Team” that won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as an NBA player in 2002 and as a member of the Dream Team in 2010.

Among his business endeavors, he oversees Magic Johnson Enterprises and has ownership stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers, WNBA Los Angeles Sparks and MLS LAFC.
