With NFL Jersey Sales Like This, Oakland's Marshawn Lynch Could Run For President

By Barry Janoff

June 14, 2017: Marshawn Lynch made the right move to come back to the NFL after taking a year off, at least as far as merchandise sales go.

Lynch, now in his first season with the Oakland (soon to be Las Vegas) Raiders, topped the list of best-selling jerseys for May, a solid return for a player who retired after Super Bowl L (Feb. 2016) following more than five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

He then applied for reinstatement earlier this year and was traded from the Seahawks to his hometown Raiders in April, making May the first full month his Raiders jersey would be on sale..

Among the Top Five, Lynch came in ahead of Tom Brady of the Super Bowl LI champion New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys teammates Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott and Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans.

He also topped his new quarterback, Derrick Carr, and his former QB with the Seahawks, Russell Wilson, according to stats for the month of May from NFLShop.com.

Specific sales figures were not released.

Lynch would even have done well as a presidential candidate, topping sales in 14 states, mostly in the west,

They included California, Alaska, Hawaii, his former stomping ground in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas and Indiana.

However, Brady ruled sales in the most number of states, 17, claiming all of New England: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode island.

Brady also took Montana, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Kentucky, Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia, Maryland and Florida.

Prescott led jersey sales in Texas as well as Oklahoma and Mississippi.

Von Miller topped sales in Colorado and Wyoming.

Although he is now with the New Orleans Saints, Adrian Peterson’s new jersey was the top selling jersey in Minnesota, where he played ten seasons with the Vikings (although he appeared in just 20 games over the past three years).

Colin Kaepernick’s San Francisco 49ers jersey placed at No. 17, even though he became a free agent in March and is no longer with the team.

Rookie James Conner came in at No. 11, the top-selling jersey among the Pittsburgh Steelers and first-year players.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has a different list of top NFL sales. According to its Jersey Report, the Top 25 selling jerseys over the past month are:
