Guys And (Barbie) Dolls At The Kentucky Derby

April 2, 2009: Mattel has joined the field of marketing partners that will be on board for the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby May 2 at Churchill Downs. The toy company has produced a special edition Kentucky Derby Barbie doll that comes outfitted in attire fit for the event, including a Kentucky Derby fashionista oversized white hat with blossoming flower accents (although she is not holding the traditional Mint Julep drink). The doll is available for purchase through Wal-Mart, Walmart.com, www.Barbiecollector.com and www.Thederbystore.com. Other Kentucky Derby marketing partners include Yum!, Visa, American Airlines and NBC. “This is a great project that brings together two iconic American brands in a very special way,” Casey Cook, senior director of marketing and licensing for Churchill Downs Inc., said in a statement.
