Carmelo Anthony Looking Good In New Marketing Deal With Johnson Products

Carmelo Anthony will ask men to 'step up their game' in national marketing for JPC.April 6, 2011: Carmelo Anthony is making his mark on the court with the New York Knicks. Now, he is seeking to leave his mark in national marketing.

Anthony has signed a multi-year deal to become the national spokesman for Johnson Products Co.'s line of grooming products targeting African American men. The deal is Anthony's second since joining the Knicks in February following a pact he signed in March with Sprint's Boost Mobile.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Anthony will be asking men to ‘Step Up Their Game’ in advertising and promotional campaigns, cause-marketing, community outreach programs and personal appearances for JPC and Ultra Sheen Men, which the company launched this past fall. Anthony will also be involved in the development of "innovative new grooming products for JPC," according to the company.

JPC said that its partnership with Anthony is the first of its kind for its new management team. On March 31, 2009, JPC was acquired from Procter & Gamble with the combined investments of RC Fontis, St. Cloud Capital and Plus Factor, LLC, an African American management team. Over its 55-year history, Dallas-based Johnson Products Co. has created 53 hair care products under the Ultra Sheen and Gentle Treatment brands.

According to JPC, "no one better exudes the trendsetting man than Carmelo Anthony."

"Our team sees a lot of opportunity and growth in the men’s sector, which doesn’t typically get a lot of attention. Carmelo Anthony will bring excitement to our new brand."

“We are very excited to leverage the strong position in the ethnic hair care space that Johnson Products has to launch our new men’s line,"  Eric Brown, JPC CEO, said in a statement. "Our team sees a lot of opportunity and growth in the men’s sector which doesn’t typically get a lot of attention. Adding Carmelo Anthony to the Johnson Products Family as well as having him represent the Ultra Sheen Men brand to the community will certainly bring excitement to our new brand.”

Anthony also has a line of signature shoes with Nike's Jordan Brand.

“I am very excited about joining the team at Johnson Products Company," Anthony said in a statement. "I have fond memories of Ultra Sheen products from my childhood days and they have such a long-standing and rich reputation that it was very easy for me to agree to be a part of this new effort. Being a part of the Ultra Sheen Men launch and influencing young men to ‘Step Up Their Game’ in every aspect of their lives is truly what I am all about.”
