Desert Heat: NBA Vegas Summer League Books MGM Resorts As Title Sponsor

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

July 9, 2017: Just in time for the arrival of high-profile rookie Lonzo Ball, MGM Resorts International has signed a multi-year deal to become title partner for the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Financial terms of the pact were not shared.

As part of the partnership, the new MGM Resorts NBA Summer League logo and event marks will be integrated across digital and TV programming, promotional materials and at MGM Resorts NBA Summer League games and events in Las Vegas.

A multi-media campaign for MGM Resorts will run on TV, Internet and social media.

In total, 63 games from Las Vegas will air across ESPN and NBA TV’s linear channels — a Summer League record, according to the NBA.

A record 24 NBA teams will participate in a tournament-style format starting July 12 that culminates with the championship game on July 17  (ESPN). Teams will also play three preliminary games through July 11.

Last year’s NBA Las Vegas Summer League set records for total attendance, single-day attendance, combined viewership across ESPN and NBA TV, and traffic to the NBA’s social media platforms.

The 2017 version is already on pace to break those records, with 44,000 people having attended the first four days, two of which featured games with the Los Angeles Lakers and Ball.

On Saturday, July 8, a one-day record of 17,500 attended games in Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion, both located on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus.

The Vegas Summer League is the last of the NBA’s three summer leagues, following Orlando (July 1-6) and Utah (July 3-6).
