MiLB Now Planning ‘Ballparks Of The Future’ With New FIS Financial Tech Alliance

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

March 27, 2017: Minor League Baseball traces its roots back to 1901.

While still embracing its history. MiLB today signed a deal that has it looking at "Ballparks of the Future."

A new wide-reaching alliance has named FIS, a global leader in financial technology, the "official business-driving solutions provider" for MiLB.

According to MiLB, the agreement "enables FIS to provide advanced solutions to MiLB and its clubs in three key areas: ballpark operations, merchant services and loyalty & rewards."

Under the agreement, FIS will have the opportunity to market and sell its advanced payment, loyalty and other solutions to MiLB clubs across the United States and Canada.

Financial terms of the alliance were not revealed.

FIS solutions will help clubs to "simplify payment transactions for fans, improve customer experience, better track employee expenses, streamline handling," per MiLB.

In addition, FIS and MiLB said they would work together with MLB Advanced Media on the "creation of the first overarching MiLB Fan Loyalty program, which should further enhance fans’ experiences and drive attendance."

"In our quest to be a dynamic leader in sport and entertainment, we place heightened emphasis on aligning with companies that buy into our vision for the future and are committed to helping us get there," David Wright, CMO and chief commercial officer for MiLB, said in a statement. "Teaming with FIS makes sense on so many levels and plays to the strengths of both organizations.

"Our robust ownership, tech-savvy fan base and overall scale positions FIS and its industry-leading payment and loyalty services as the ideal partner for Minor League Baseball."

Last week, MiLB signed a pact naming ServiceMaster Global Holdings as a corporate partner, with such divisions as Terminix, American Home Shield and Merry Maids getting official status with the league’s 244 teams.

MiLB corporate partners also include Esurance, Bush’s, Uncle Ray’s, E&J Gallo, Crayola, John Deere and SunRun.

FIS,  headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., serves more than 20,000 clients in over 130 countries.

MiLB headquarters are in St. Petersburg, Fla.

According to Bruce Lowthers, president for FIS’ Global Retail Payments Division, "Minor League Baseball is the backbone of America’s pastime. We are thrilled to support this forward-looking organization in making the ballpark experience one that draws more people to games and encourages them to return over and over.

"From payroll to payments and data management to loyalty, FIS looks forward to supporting MiLB to create the 'ballpark of the future.'"
