May 18, 2015: Mission Athletecare, whose products are intended to enhance and support the activities of pro and casual athletes has added an All-Pro quarterback to its roster of endorsers, signing Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints to appear in marketing and support such items as the expanding line of EnduraCool instant cooling towels.
New York-based Mission Athletecare last week signed NHL All Star, John Tavares of the New York Islanders and earlier this month added Nascar driver Jimmie Johnson to its line-up.
Financial terms of the alliance with Brees were not shared.
The three, as well as Mission's other spokespersons, currently will focus on Mission's inaugural Heat Safety Awareness Week, which begins today (May 18) and concludes with National Heat Awareness Day on Friday, May 22.
"As an athlete from Texas who now spends a tremendous amount of time training in New Orleans, I am well-familiar with the effects heat can have on performance," Brees said in a statement. "I am proud to join the Mission roster and raise awareness for the cutting-edge products that will undoubtedly make a huge impact on athletes everywhere."
This month, Mission expanded upon its EnduraCool towel with a line of wearable EnduraCool instant cooling gear and accessories — specifically designed for in-game and in-action cooling — including instant cooling hats, skull caps, headbands and sleeves.
Mission said it would also launch a three-month, 60-city tour of summer sport camps, endurance races and sporting events to "educate athletes of all levels how they can play safe and optimize performance through cooling strategies."
According to Josh Shaw, founder and CEO for Mission, "We are honored to welcome both Drew and John to the Mission Team. Both of them directly reflect the true DNA of what we stand for at Mission. Their commitment to high performance in work and life is exactly how we operate at Mission, and we're proud to be aligned with such great leaders in all of sports."
Mission said that all of its athletes would be joining forces this week through interactive events and social outreach to "raise awareness on the dangers of heat related injuries and help promote Mission's Heat Safety Pledge," which rewards high schools that follow the heat safety guidelines outlined by the Korey Stringer Institute, the world's leading organization focused on heat safety.
Mission's roster of athletes and product developers includes Dwyane Wade, Serena Williams, Mia Hamm, Billie Jean King, Dwight Howard, Reggie Bush, Amanda Beard, Carmelo Anthony and Brees' fellow NFL quarterback Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins.
