• Under Armour said this morning that Patrik Frisk, the company’s president and COO, would become its new CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2020. He will also remain president. Company founder, chairman and CEO Kevin Plank, will become executive chairman and brand chief. According to Friske via Under Armour, "The opportunity that lies ahead of us is incredible as our entire global team continues to lean hard into our transformation."

• Sacramento, California's capital city, has been awarded an MLS expansion team with Sacramento Republic FC becoming the league's 29th team and beginning play in MLS in 2022. The club will build a new, $300 million, 20,100-seat soccer stadium in the downtown Railyards District. 

• Octagon and the National Women’s Soccer League have signed a multi-tier consulting partnership, in which Octagon’s Global Media Rights Consulting and Marketing divisions will "advise the NWSL on its league media rights, sponsorship, and marketing." “The growth of the NWSL over the past six years has been tremendous, and the league, its teams and players show absolutely no sign of slowing down,” Christine Franklin, SVP, Marketing, Octagon, said via the firm.

• The Professional Baseball Agreement between MLB and minor league teams expires at the end of the 2020 season. But if a new MLB proposal were to become reality, more than three dozen cities with affiliated minor league teams will lose those teams a year from now and thousands of minor league players will be out of work as well. MLB, Los Angeles Dodgers Unveil 2020 ASG Logo, $100M Stadium Renovation

July 23, 2019: Team USA and the International Olympic Committee this week are celebrating the “One Year to GO Until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” but it also is about a year to go to the 2020 MLB All-Star Game — July 14, 2020 — and MLB and host Los Angeles Dodgers are doing their own celebrating.

At a ceremony Tuesday in Dodger Stadium, MLB and the Dodgers officially unveiled the 2020 All-Star Game logo, which “celebrates the golden age of Hollywood.”

The Dodgers also unveiled plans for a $100 million renovation of Dodger Stadium, which opened in 1962 and is the third oldest stadium in MLB behind Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914).

Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully served as the emcee of the event — with Dodger Stadium’s address, fittingly, 1000 Vin Scully Way — which was attended by current and former players and managers, local politicians, celebrities and fans.

The renovation will include new restaurants, upgraded seating, fan-friendly areas and a new statue honoring Hall of Fame pitcher and Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax, which will be placed next to an existing statue of Jackie Robinson in the rebuilt section and entrance beyond the center field section of the stadium.

The 2020 event will join the All-Star Games of 1949, 1959 and 1980 as those hosted by the Dodgers franchise.

“Major League Baseball is thrilled to bring the All-Star Game back to Dodger Stadium, one of our game’s marquee ballparks,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said during the All-Star Game event.

“With the combination of two consecutive World Series appearances, continued success on the field and the anticipation of our 2020 Midsummer Classic, this is a great time to be Dodger fan."

Manfred said that "on the heels of a terrific 2019 All-Star Week (in Cleveland), we look forward to showcasing the very best of our sport and the city of Los Angeles to Baseball fans on a national stage next summer.”

As described by MLB, “The official logo of the 2020 MLB All-Star Game has within the logo the words “All-Star Game” written as in a film scroll.

“The golden logo is contained in the signature hexagon shape found throughout Dodger Stadium. The club’s Dodger Blue creates the logo’s dimension, while the star features a splash of red reminiscent of the Dodgers’ classic jerseys.

"Stylistically these icons and colors create a unique Los Angeles theme to MLB’s Midsummer Classic," according to the league.

According to Stan Kasten, Dodgers president and CEO, “The countdown for 2020 All-Star Week festivities has begun, and we can’t wait to welcome the baseball world to Los Angeles for these great events.

“We’re excited to not only unveil the official 2020 All-Star logo today, but also our plans for the latest round of Dodger Stadium improvements as we continue to modernize our historic home. We’re looking forward to showing off these fan-friendly enhancements next year.”
