• FIFA has postponed plans to expand the World Cup from 32 to 48 teams for the 2022 event in Qatar. The plan is still being considered for the 2026 World Cup, which will be staged in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. According to FIFA, “(There was not enough) time for a detailed assessment of the potential logistical impact.” The World Cup is scheduled for Nov. 21-Dec. 18, 2022.

• The NFL and NFL Players Association have unveiled two joint agreements that are intended to “support further resources directed to address pain management and behavioral health.” Full story here.

• The U.S. Women’s National Team Players Association, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, and social impact education innovator EVERFI, Inc. have oined the students of Santee Elementary School in San Jose to launch The Compassion Project for the 2019-2020 school year, described as a “national nonprofit dedicated to providing compassion education to elementary school students across the U.S.”

• The U.S. Golf Association has aligned with Marvel Entertainment to create exclusive golf education products to “engage junior golfers on the essential elements to learning the game." Scheduled to launch in June at the 2019 U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach, the collaboration features printed and digital comic books with many of Marvel’s super heroes The story follows Tony Stark (Iron Man) and other Avengers as they teach the next generation of Marvel Super Heroes about golf. Limited-edition Marvel-themed golf posters will be distributed (while supplies last) at the Junior Experience at the 2019 U.S. Open.

• Major League Lacrosse has signed a deal with Anheuser-Busch to have its Bud Light brand become the official beer partner for the 2019 MLL All-Star Game, being played in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD on July 27. The deal includes “prominent signage on the playing field, fan zone activation and various on-site promotions at several sports bars and retail locations in the Greater Annapolis area leading up to the All-Star Game.”

• Stating that “we are continually seeking opportunities to evolve our product offerings,’ Kohl’s has signed an exclusive long-term alliance with Fanatics, a global leader in licensed sports merchandise with the addition of “hundreds of thousands of items.” Full story here.

• Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, have launched with The ALS Assn. the 5th anniversary of “Challenge Me” with a “new call to action to reignite the passion and generosity of the millions of people who dumped ice water on their heads in the summer of 2014.”

Luka Dončić, Trae Young Head NBA All-Rookie Team
Dallas Mavericks guard-forward Luka Dončić and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young have been unanimously selected to the 2018-19 NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Dončić and Young both received NBA All-Rookie First Team votes on all 100 ballots to finish with 200 points each.  They are joined on the NBA All-Rookie First Team by Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton (195 points; 95 First Team votes), Memphis Grizzlies forward-center Jaren Jackson Jr. (159 points; 60 First Team votes) and Sacramento Kings forward Marvin Bagley III (156 points; 56 First Team votes).

Pay As You Enter: Yankees, Red Sox, Mariners Most Expensive MLB Games

March 29, 2018: It is much too early to tell which team will lead MLB in wins, homers, batting or runs scored.

However, the New York Yankees enter the 2018 already leading in one category: Most expensive average cost to attend a game.

The average cost for two people to see a game in Yankee Stadium (pictured), also purchasing two hot dogs, two beers and paying for parking would total $95, the highest such average cost in MLB.

Not far behind, the same average cost package in the Seattle Mariners’ Safeco Field is $92.83 and in the Boston Red Sox Fenway Park $91, according to an MLB 2018 Opening Day survey from online personal finance and investment site GOBankingRates.com.

At the other end of the spectrum, the average cost for two tickets while also purchasing two hot dogs, two beers and paying for parking to see the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field is $50, the lowest average in MLB this season.

Also offering among the lowest average cost to see a MLB game are the Atlanta Braves in SunTrust Park (pictured below) at $51 and the Los Angeles Angels in Angel Stadium at $52.67.

Tickets to see the Braves are the least expensive on average in MLB, according to GOBankingRates.com.

GOBankingRates said it calculated the average cost to visit each stadium by taking the average of the three cheapest 2018 season ticket seat options and dividing that number by 81 home games.

It then multiplied that number by two attendees and added the price of parking, food and beverages.

On a separate but related note, people attending MLB games this season are projected to purchase a record 19 million hot dogs — everything from official MLB partner Nathan’s to Texas Rangers Dilly Dog and the Tampa Bay Rays Bacon Fried Doggy — according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, Washington, DC.

The fact that the Yankees average cost per game leads MLB has not stopped people from wanting tickets.

The top-selling home opener this year both in demand and price — averaging $218 on StubHub — belongs to the Yankees, led by 2017 AL Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge and new teammate and reigning National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton, hosting the Tampa Bay Rays in Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees are also StubHub’s top-selling team in MLB overall going into the season, with demand in terms of ticket sales up 61% from last year, “likely a result of the team’s off-season moves,” offers StubHub.

People who want to see a MLB game in New York would save some money by seeing the Mets rather than the Yankees.

The average cost for two tickets, hot dogs, beer and parking at Citi Field is $83.67.

People in Chicago also have a choice, and not just based on loyalty.

The average cost for the Chicago White Sox in U.S. Cellular Field: $62.33.

The average cost for the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field: $76.17.

In Los Angeles, the Dodgers come in with an average in Dodgers Stadium of $73.83.

Slightly south, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Angel Stadium come in at $52.67.
