Toasted Grasshoppers, Batman! MLB Unveils Details For 2019 NYC FoodFest

By Barry Janoff

August 22, 2019: As National Baseball Hall of Fame manager once said, “When we lose, I eat. When we win, I eat. I also eat when we’re rained out.”

If you are a baseball fan who feels the same way, MLB has shared the date and location for the second of its planned three MLB FoodFest presented by Budweiser events for this year: In New York on Sept. 21-22 on Fifth Avenue near Bryant Park.

The event follows a MLB FoodFest this past April in Los Angeles and precedes one in London happening in October, with the location and date to be finalized.

This is the second MLB FoodFest presented by Budweiser in New York, following the premiere last year, tickets to which sold out in 48 hours, according to the league.

Tickets for MLB FoodFest presented by Budweiser in New York are available at MLB.com/FoodFest.

Coca-Cola is also partnering with the event.

As with the 2018 New York edition and the Los Angeles installment, all 30 MLB teams designated one concession item to “represent their team and community at this distinctive baseball-themed food festival.”

A promo spot from MLB offers an overview of the food and festivities. The league is supporting with social media including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram (#MLBFoodFest).

MLB said most of the menu offerings are new to the New York event.

However, returning from the inaugural MLB FoodFest are four favorites: the Seattle Mariners Toasted Grasshoppers, Pittsburgh Pirates Pulled Pork Pierogie Hoagie, Hot Lobster Rolls from the Boston Red Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks Churro Dogs.

The two local teams will offer the Mets Bases Loaded Dog and the Yankees Shrimp Po’Boy.

The limited-edition event is open from 11 AM-10 PM (ET) each day, with two-hour windows available to attend.

Each ticket grants access to the space for a designated two-hour block and can only be secured online prior to arrival at the venue. (Details here.)

Anyone purchasing and using a ticket that includes alcohol must be 21 years of age or older. MLB asks that attendees “Please drink responsibly.”

People have two ticket options for MLB FoodFest in NY:

• Food Ticket: 30 different food items ($35)

• Food and Beer Ticket (must be 21 or older): 30 different food items plus 3 beers ($50)

Each ticket includes scaled-down portions of the unique dishes that fans find in ball parks across North America, as well as complimentary Coca-Cola beverages.

In addition to dining on the 30 ballpark items, attendees will also have access to new interactive elements.

The Home Run Derby Virtual Reality.experience developed by the MLB Games and VR team allows people to wear a VR headset and swing for the virtual fences with a proprietary VR bat controller to bring the unique feel of a real bat into their hands.

Also new to MLB FoodFest in New York is an MLB FoodFest merchandise shop which will feature officially licensed, limited-edition caps, shirts and collectibles on-site.

Budweiser, the presenting sponsor of MLB FoodFest, will have a Brewmaster and custom beer bar on-site for attendees 21 years of age or older.

Anheuser-Busch will provide a recommended beer pairing for each of the 30 ballpark items.

The Brewmaster will also describe the brewing process and introduce the Budweiser Innovation Copper Lager, “a rich lager aged on Jim Beam bourbon barrel staves with hints of Vanilla and caramel rye followed by a deliciously smooth finish.”
