March 24, 2014: Now that the 2014 MLB season has officially begun — the Los Angeles Dodgers have a two game lead on the rest of the baseball world thanks to a pair of wins over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia — marketers, fans and MLB executives are eyeballing Opening Days, when the other 28 teams begin to play for real.
Among the plethora of events that are scheduled to take place March 30-April 1, MTV and MLB will premiere Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave, described as a show where MLB players "will share their love for pop culture and entertainment, while fans will gain behind-the-scenes access to the biggest stars in the game."
Thirty episodes of the 30-minute Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave are scheduled to air this season. The series is the first event as part of a multi-year, cross-platform programming partnership between MLB and MTV.
David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox and MVP of the 2013 World Series is an executive producer of the series throughout the season. Segment executive producers include Robinson Cano (Seattle Mariners), Adam Jones (Baltimore Orioles), Craig Kimbrel (Atlanta Braves), Jose Fernandez (Miami Marlins) and Wil Myers (Tampa Bay Rays).
Hosts include hosted by Sway, Fat Joe, Chris Distefano and Melanie Iglesias.
Each episode of Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave will include on-location segments in which MLB players share with viewers their off-the-field interests, such as tours of their favorite restaurants or a look at their sneaker collection.
MTV and MLB said they would host an Opening Day Block Party at the MLB Fan Cave in New York (4th St. between Broadway and Lafayette) on March 30. The free party will feature special celebrity guests, the hosts of Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave, food, games and raffles. (Details here.)
The series is scheduled to premiere on MTV2 on April 1 (11 PM ET/PT) and then air every Tuesday night in that time slot throughout the 2014 season.
