Mission Deal Brings Steve Nash, Serena Williams, Mia Hamm To MLB

October 18, 2010: Steve Nash, Serena Williams, Mia Hamm and Amanda Beard have all signed with Major League Baseball. It's not that the game has changed to include pro basketball, tennis, soccer and swimming stars on its rosters. The quartet and other pros are all part of the founding and R&D team at Mission skincare products, which has signed a licensing agreement with Major League Baseball Properties.

Mission's Maximum Strength Muscle Rub is now part of the MLB lineup, and will include baseball's logo and official designation in future marketing efforts. Financial  terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to Mission', Maximum Strength Muscle Rub is a "fast-acting, deep-penetrating, long-lasting muscle rub" that can be used for intense recovery treatment.

"Giving our players a recovery product is important," Howard Smith, svp-licensing for Major League Baseball, said in a statement. "Our relationship with Mission will give our players additional tools to help protect them as they play, and support them as they recover to prepare for the next game."

Among the initial supports is David Wright of the New York Mets, who is among the athletes listed as co-founded at Mission. "I'm excited to see this come together, especially since I'm an integral part of both organizations," said Wright. "Just like stretching after competition or even a workout, caring for muscles is essential to staying in shape and getting in the game to perform the next day."

Mission has more than a dozen athletes on its management team who work  "with leading scientists, doctors and physical therapists to develop innovative formulas that deliver on the recovery needs of today's active lifestyle." In addition to Wright they include Steve Nash (NBA's Phoenix Sun), tennis star Serena Williams, former U.S. Women's National Soccer Team star Mia Hamm, Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard and golf pro Sergio Garcia.

Products are available at retailers including Dick's Sporting Goods, GNC and CVS/pharmacy, as well as at Mission's Web site.

According to Josh Shaw, president at Mission, "The muscle rub market has lacked innovation for some time now, and we decided it was time to 'change the game' – again. The Mission Maximum Strength Muscle Rub epitomizes team work, consumer input and truly putting the athlete's needs first."
