Nabisco Snacks On Winter Games With Marketing, Consumer Sweeps, Athletes

By Barry Janoff

September 21, 2017: Snack giant Nabisco is serving up a full-course menu of marketing to support the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea, including TV, digital, social media, packaging, POP, a consumer sweeps and athlete alliances that include two-time Olympic gold winner Ted Ligety and snowboarder Chloe Kim.

Nabisco’s "Can't Miss Moments" effort also supports its position as an official partner with the U.S. Olympic Committee and Team USA.

The effort will be anchored by Nabisco brands Oreo, Chips Ahoy! and Ritz. Nabisco is a division of Mondelēz International.

"Team USA and the Olympic and Paralympic Games embody a long-standing tradition of celebrating outstanding moments,” Stephen Chriss, head of North America marketing activation/partnerships for Mondelēz International, said in a statement. "Just like the Games, our brands bring people together — from teammates to roommates, fans to families — to share a moment, big or small."

Nabisco said the campaign would activate as the Games approach (Feb. 9-25, 2018), with the trio of brands hitting retail in January with limited-edition Team USA-themed packaging and Oreo cookies "embossed with Team USA-themed emblems."

A #BitetoWinSweepstakes on social media will offer consumers an opportunity to win a $10,000 entertainment package or hundreds of other prize. (Details will be shared beginning Jan. 1 at pinterest.com/nabisco and Snackworks.com.)

Ligety and Kim (pictured during Nabisco ad shoot with her dog, Reese) will be part of multi-media efforts, including "sharing their own, relatable 'Can't Miss Moments.'"

According to Jason Levine, vp-marketing for Mondelēz International, "With the anticipation of the Olympic Winter Games ramping up, we are thrilled to team up with two 2018 Team USA hopefuls who may be representing our country in PyeongChang.

"As they continue their journey towards the international stage, we're proud to support the 'Can't Miss Moments' Ligety and Kim have been working so hard to achieve. We look forward to helping their fans, who will be cheering them on from afar, fuel their own moments at home," said Levine.

Ligety is a veteran alpine skier who won gold in the 2006 Turin Games and the 2014 Sochi Games.

Snowboarder Kim is seeking her first Olympic competition after having made the U.S. squad in 2014 but, at 13, was too young by rule to compete.

Kim, whose parents are from South Korea, also has Winter Games-related deals that include Visa, Toyota and Burton, as well as Target and Monster Energy. She is handled by CAA.

"Through this sponsorship, we're joining the celebration and honoring those 'Can't Miss Moments' that bind us, whether it's a Team USA athlete at the Olympic Winter Games or fans at home coming together to watch and cheer, while sharing a snack," said Chriss.
