Naomi Osaka Ads To Shiseido Marketing With bareMinerals Global Campaign

By Barry Janoff

June 20, 2019: Naomi Osaka, two-time Grand Slam winner and current No. 1 ranked women’s tennis player in the world, has expanded her role with Shiseido to become a global ambassador for bareMinerals beauty and skincare products.

Osaka will serve as the face of the brand's top-selling barePro Performance Wear Foundation.

She will appear in multi-media marketing breaking this week under the tag, “The Power of Good,” as well as make personal appearances.

Financial terms were not released.

The deal comes just prior to the next tennis Grand Slam at Wimbledon (July 1-14).

"We chose Naomi not only because of her extraordinary athletic abilities and unmistakable passion for her craft, but also for the confidence, poise and perseverance she demonstrates on and off the court," Jill Scalamandre, president for bareMinerals, said via the San Francisco-based brand.

"She is a remarkable person, and I am thrilled to welcome her to the bareMinerals family."

Osaka already has been representing Anissa sunscreen from global personal care products company Shiseido, based in Tokyo.

Osaka was born in Japan and represents that nation on the WTA circuit — and potentially in the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.

Unfortunately for her, the deal was unveiled the same day she lost in the second round at the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham, U.K., which could put her No. 1 ranking in jeopardy heading to Wimbledon.

Osaka, who won consecutive Grand Slams at the 2018 U.S. Open and then the Australian Open this past January, also has alliances that include Nike (a multi-million dollar pact that was unveiled in April), All Nippon Airways, Nissan, Citizen watches, P&G, Yonex, Nissin Foods and Wowow.

She is nearing the $10 million mark in endorsements, according to industry analysts.

She earned $3.8 million for winning the U.S. Open against Serena Williams (also a Nike endorser), then $3 million for winning the Australian Open.

BareMinerals also has endorsement deals that include Hailey Bieber, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Letitia Wright.

BareMinerals described Osaka’s marketing as showing her “feminine beauty on and off the court. Her style is effortless glamour with a little bit of edge.”

According to Osaka, "To me, ‘The Power of Good’ means being the best version of yourself without sacrificing integrity or putting others down.

”With bareMinerals barePro Foundation, I don't have to compromise clean beauty and natural-looking results for performance. These formulas keep up with my active lifestyle and never fail to deliver."
