Court Caché: Knicks, Warriors, Lakers Top Most Valuable NBA Franchises

September 24, 2022: The New York Knicks, defending champion Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers were the three most valuable franchises in the NBA at the end of the 2021-22 season, each valued at more than $5 billion.
The three teams also rank among the Top Ten most valuable sports franchises in the world in 2021-22, according to Forbes and industry analysts.
The Knicks, valued at $5.8 billion, are No. 1 among NBA teams and are tied for No. 6 in the world with the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
That list is headed by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys ($8 billion), New England Patriots ($6.4 billion), defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams ($6.2 billion) and New York Giants ($6 billion), with the Giants tied with the New York Yankees, which rank as MLB’s most valuable franchise, according to Forbes.
The Warriors are valued at $5.6 billion, the Lakers at $5.5 billion.
The Top Ten most valuable NBA franchises include four teams valued at more than $3 billion: Chicago Bulls ($3.65 billion), Boston Celtics ($3.55 billion), Los Angeles Clippers ($3.3 billion) and the Brooklyn Nets ($3.2 billion).
The Top Ten also includes the Houston Rockets ($2.79 billion), Toronto Raptors $2.74 billion) and Dallas Mavericks ($2.72 billion).
Among the Top 50 most valuable sports franchises in the world, 23 of the NBA teams do not make the Forbes' cutoff figure of Chelsea’s $3.1 billion.
The NBA’s least valuable franchises still come in at more than $1.5 billion: Oklahoma City Thunder ($1.67 billion), Charlotte Hornets ($1.6 billion), Minnesota Grizzlies ($1.57 billion), Memphis Grizzlies ($1.53 billion) and New Orleans Pelicans ($1.51 billion).
