Kids Foot Locker Helps NBA Movers Thomas, Butler, Russell Feel At Home

By Barry Janoff

December 7, 2017: It’s tough being a new kid in a new town, or a new kid in a new class or a new player on a new team.

Kids Foot Locker’s new holiday campaign shares those feelings through the eyes of three NBA players recently traded to new teams in new cities — Isaiah Thomas, Jimmy Butler and D'Angelo Russell — who in turn connect with real kids who recently moved to new cities with their families.

The first in what will be a series of spots features Thomas as the “New Kid In Town” in Cleveland, where he was traded to the Cavaliers this season by the Boston Celtics.

We meet London Arrington, 10, who said she recently moved to Cleveland from Los Angeles. “Kids Foot Locker is going to introduce me to another kid who recently moved to this city which is good because I really don’t have any friends here.”

When London, a basketball fan, walks into Campell’s Sweets Factory in Cleveland, she immediately recognizes Thomas.

Thomas hands her a bag of Kids Foot Locker goodies —“with some of the hottest Nike footwear and apparel from Kids Foot Locker, including the Air Force 1 High Bordeaux” — and they enjoy the candy treats in the store before heading to other Cleveland spots, including the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.

“That was so amazing,” London says at the end of the day. “I made a new friend in Cleveland.”

"Since moving from Boston, I've been really focused on the current NBA season and getting to know the great city of Cleveland and our incredible fans," Thomas said in a statement.

”The people of Cleveland have been so welcoming to me, so I jumped at the opportunity to team up with Kids Foot Locker to give a similarly warm welcome to a kid who is new like me, as she gets familiarized with the city."

Subsequent spots being unveiled this month will follow Russell in Brooklyn (traded to the Nets from the Los Angeles Lakers) and Butler in Minnesota (traded to the Timberwolves from the Chicago Bulls).

Support includes Internet, social media and POP. Lead agency in BBDO Worldwide.

According to Patrick Walsh, vp-marketing for Kids Foot Locker. "We are excited to team up with Isaiah, Jimmy and D'Angelo because we know that being the 'new kid in town' can be intimidating — even if you are a top NBA player.

“Outfitted in the latest footwear and apparel from Kids Foot Locker this holiday season, kids everywhere will feel confident in any new situation they may face," said Walsh.
