NBA Hits Radio Airwaves With '360-Degree View' Of Hoops On SiriusXM

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

December 5, 2013: Back in the day, the only way sports fans could hear games and get much of their information was by listening to the radio.

The NBA — which is available via a multitude of platforms worldwide — has now gone full circle, launching on SiriusXM an exclusive NBA channel that will cover the league 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Content will feature more than 14 live NBA games each week and a daily schedule of NBA-focused news.

SiriusXM NBA Radio on Channel 217 is scheduled to debut Dec. 9 at 7:00 AM (ET).

"Since 2003, we've given our listeners the ability to follow their favorite team's games from anywhere across the U.S. in their car, at home or on their mobile device," Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM's president and chief content officer, said in a statement. "Now they'll have a radio channel that will deliver a 360-degree view of the league from the people who know the game best," said Greenstein.

SiriusXM and the NBA recently agreed to a multi-year renewal of their broadcasting agreement. SiriusXM NBA Radio and other NBA-related stations are available to subscribers with XM Select, Sirius Premier or Sirius All-Access plans. (Details here.)

"Now [NBA fans] have a radio channel that will deliver a 360-degree view of the league from the people who know the game best."

The first day of programming is scheduled to include Commissioner David Stern, NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni; and such players as Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis and Hall of Famers Chris Mullin and Bernard King.

The roster of hosts will include TNT analysts Kenny Smith and Steve Kerr; Lionel Hollins and Nancy Lieberman.

"The NBA has always been an important element of our sports lineup and we're thrilled to be enhancing our coverage with the launch of SiriusXM NBA Radio," said Greenstein.
