• Steve Phelps has been named Nascar President, effective Oct. 1, replacing Brent Dewar, who has “elected to step down and will remain with the company through the end of the 2018 racing season, transitioning to a senior consulting and advisory role in 2019.”  Phelps joined Nascar in 2005.

• On Location Experiences,  the official hospitality partner of the NFL has signed Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith as Brand Ambassador for Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta this February. Joining Emmitt Smith will be 16 NFL Legends who will all attend one of the three, exclusive pre-game tailgates hosted by On Location.

• The College Sports Information Directors of America, Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization said they would recognize college football players who have overcome adversity with a new honor, the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.  During the 2018 college football season, 30 student-athletes from all levels of college football who have overcome injury, illness or other challenges will be recognized as Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Nominees. At the end of the season, three student-athletes will be chosen as Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award winners.

NBA Offering Fans Goodies, Collectibles With 'Courtside' Sports Crate Alliance

November 16, 2017: This past March, Sports Crate, the division of Loot Crate that focuses on sending subscribers unique and collectible sports items, signed on as the official subscription box for MLB with Diamond Crates.

Sports Crate has now added an exclusive deal with the NBA to send Courtside Crates to subscribers. containing such items as apparel, collectibles, products and experiences .

The alliance initially features 13 NBA teams.

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Sport Crate said its bi-monthly NBA Courtside Crate teams include the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs.

Sports Crate has partnerships with brands including Stance, ’47, Mitchell & Ness and Tervis. Items are not limited to these companies.

Experiences include tickets to games and meet-and-greets with players, as well as “special offers from the NBA” and partners with each respective team.

"NBA Sports Crate brings you closer to the game, the team and the players you love to watch, because ball is life," Chris Davis, CEO for Los Angeles-based Loot Crate, said in a statement.

"Fans who sign up for this service will get more than just exciting products sent to their homes, an NBA Courtside Crate is an entire fan experience in a box."

According to the company, “Sports Crates are sold individually, in a three-crate series, or as a six-crate season pass. NBA Courtside Crates are now available now on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to ensure their collectability.” (Shipping is scheduled to begin Dec. 28.)

Loot Crate, founded in 2012, contains unique items from movies, TV and other entertainment venues.

Partner brands include Halo, Marvel,, Harry Potter, Minecraft, Nickelodeon, Sanrio, WWE, Cartoon Network and Overwatch.
