July 2, 2012: A lot of people who play basketball wear surfing boardshorts on the court. Now, the NBA has made the fashion statement official, signing a deal with Quiksilver, a leading manufacturer of surf apparel, to create a line of NBA branded boardshorts.
Financial terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed.
The NBA and Quiksilver said the rookie collection would feature logos and colors from the 2011-12 champion Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Orlando Magic.
The Quiksilver NBA mens boardshort line is available at Quiksilver flagship stores nationwide, select Quiksilver retailer partners and Quiksilver.com, and will soon be available at NBAStore.com.
“Quiksilver is excited for the opportunity to partner with the NBA on a boardshort offering basketball fans the opportunity to showcase their fandom on the street as well as the beach,” Bob McKnight, Quiksilver CEO said in a statement. “At Quiksilver, we are committed to providing the best surf apparel for the finest athletes in our sport — and now we can extend that quality to basketball fans across the country who want to support their favorite teams all year long.”
