NBA Players Have 'One Wish' In Holiday Campaign: Special-Edition Uniforms

By Barry Janoff

November 20, 2015: A group of NBA players have "One Wish" for the holidays, and it's not what you might think.

It's about getting the new holiday-edition NBA jerseys.

A new spot, with support on Internet, social media and in-arena, touts the NBA's Dec. 25 TV games and full ten-game schedule, during which all players will be decked out in the Xmas-themed adidas jerseys, shorts and socks (from Stance).

The NBA also has designed a snow-flake ball for use on that day.

One Wish” features Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans), James Harden (Houston Rockets), DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers), Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs), Kevin Love (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Joakim Noah (Chicago Bulls).

In the spot, which is part of the NBA's umbrella "This Is Why We Play" effort, they all have a reason why the jolly bearded man who delivers gifts should bring them the special adidas gear.

"I've shared the ball like never before," says Leonard.

"The biggest day of the year is coming and I've been a very good boy," offers Noah.

Davis says, "This unibrow needs that uniform."

"I'll bring the love if you bring the jersey," relates Love.

And Harden offers, I've chosen team success over individual success. From one beard to another . . . "

A voiceover then says, "Tune in on Dec. 25 and watch the players' wishes come true." Text: This is why we play." (See the full spot here.)

Considering that the players get these jerseys anyway, the NBA is obviously channeling what it hopes will be the "one wish" among fans and consumers.

Each uniform features holiday-style script and a scarlet NBA seal — a nod to holiday greeting cards, according to the NBA.

Last year's Xmas uniforms featured each player's first name on the back. The previous year saw the NBA's sleeved jerseys, which drew mixed reviews — and in many case less than rave responses —  from players and fans.

Adidas gets its last shot at NBA Xmas day uniforms in 2016 before being replaced for the 2017-18 by Nike, which this past June signed an eight-year deal, valued at $1 billion by industry analysts, to become the league's official on-court apparel provider.

The jerseys are available at NBAStore.com ($109.99).
