D-Howard, D-Wade, Carmelo, Westbrook, Joe Johnson Lined Up For Big Holiday Spot

By Barry Janoff

November 20, 2012: The NBA is planning something BIG for Thanksgiving weekend, and not just the 40 games scheduled between Nov. 21-25.

The league will unveil on Nov. 21 the latest effort in its season-long BIG campaign, a TV spot featuring five players who will be in action on Christmas Day: Dwight Howard of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook and Joe Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets.

The five players become their own version of The Rockettes as they line up in a gym and dribble basketballs in time to the beat of the classic holiday song, Carol of the Bells.

The spot will break on ABC, ESPN, NBA TV, and TNT, as well as NBA.com and NBA social media destinations.

The BIG spot supports the recently revealed NBA adidas alternate color jerseys, which players will wear during Christmas Day games. In the ad, the five players are wearing the respective holiday color NBA jerseys they will don on in games on Dec. 25.

The jerseys are available at NBAStore.com and the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue.

The NBA's Christmas Day schedule includes Boston Celtics at Brooklyn Nets (ESPN), New York Knicks at L.A. Lakers (ABC) Oklahoma City Thunder at Miami Heat (ABC) Houston Rockets at Chicago Bulls (ESPN) and Denver Nuggets at L.A. Clippers (ESPN).

Carol of the Bells was composed in 1904 by Mykola Leontovych and has since recorded by the likes of Destiny's Child, Jessica Simpson and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

"Hark! How the bells/Sweet silver bells
"All seem to say/Throw cares away.
"Christmas is here/Bringing good cheer
"To young and old/Meek and the bold
"Ding, dong, ding, dong/That is their song."
