• Michael Jordan has sold minority stake ownerships in the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets to two investment brokers but will remain majority owner for the team: Gabe Plotkin, founder and chief investment officer for Melvin Capital, and Daniel Sundheim, founder and chief investment officer for D1 Capital, have joined the Hornets as partners, pending NBA approval. Financial terms were not disclosed.

• The future of WWE’s Superstars will be determined during a two-night draft taking place live on Friday Night SmackDown on Oct. 11 on Fos in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas; and Monday Night Raw on Oct. 14 on USA Network, Pepsi Center, Denver .

On both nights, Superstars from Raw and SmackDown will appear along with personalities from Fox and NBCUniversal programming who will announce select picks from each brand.

The draft will determine the Superstars that compete for Raw and SmackDown, which feature distinct casts, unique storylines and dedicated writing teams

• Ricky Rubio was named Tissot MVP of the FIBA World Cup after leading Spain to the 2019 championship.

• In an effort to “send a message of inclusion to its widely diverse fan base,” the NBA champion Toronto Raptors said they are the first NBA to offer an athletic hijab for Muslim women. The Nike Pro Hijabs with the team’s logo were inspired by the Hijabi Ballers, a Toronto-based non-profit organization dedicated to "celebrating and increasing the involvement of Muslim females in sports." “Inspired by those brave enough to change the game” the team posted to its social media platforms along with a video of the Hijabi Ballers in action.

• The Paley Center for Media, NY, will honor the 100th season of the NFL with a new exhibit: "A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL’s 100th Season," free and open to the public (Sept. 14-Oct. 27), which includes the first public screening of the only known complete broadcast of Super Bowl I (then known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game) in January 1967 between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs

• Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, have launched with The ALS Assn. the 5th anniversary of “Challenge Me” with a “new call to action to reignite the passion and generosity of the millions of people who dumped ice water on their heads in the summer of 2014.”

For NFL 100, Ads Tout Bud Light Platinum As ‘Official Beer For Thursday Night Football’

September 5, 2019: For NFL 100, it’s Bud Light Knight vs. Bud Light Platinum Knight, no corn syrup vs. brewed for the night.

Anheuser-Busch InBev has unveiled a multi-platform campaign for the start of the NFL’s 100 season.

Bud Light — backed by the Bud Light Knight — is again the league’s official beer sponsor.

What was called “a refreshed” Bud Light Platinum (which has been around since 2012) and the new Bud Light Platinum Knight is now the “official beer of Thursday Night Football.”

According to the brewer, two product-focused spots — “Recline" and "Crispy” — “emphasize the crisp, refreshing taste of Bud Light, capped off by the Bud Knight out of his armor”

Both spots emphasize that “Bud Light is not brewed with corn syrup.”

The on-going claim comes as rival MillerCoors, which has been singled out by Anheuser-Busch in marketing as including corn syrup as an ingredient — a negative connotation in that high-fructose corn syrup used as a sweetener has been linked to obesity and related health problems — continues to refute the claim.

MillerCoors won a legal decision this past May in which U.S. District Court Judge William Conley, based in Madison, Wisc., ruled that Anheuser-Busch could not make those claims in marketing.

Earlier this week, Judge Conley ruled that Anheuser-Busch could no longer make the claim or use the text “No corn syrup” on its packaging.

Two 30-second spots for Bud Light Platinum — “Bud Knight Platinum" and "Roofed-Top Bar” — return to the land populated by the kingdom of Dilly Dilly characters, who are joined by a new character — Bud Knight Platinum.

There is no mention of corn syrup. Instead, a voiceover offers, “Bud Light Platinum. Brewed for the night.”

The Bud Light Platinum spots debut during NFL Kickoff, the others during Week 1 NFL games.

The company said that Bud Light Platinum packaging has been “refreshed with a new deep blue coloring, a slim can, and its 6% ABV and ‘Brewed for the Night’ emblazoned on the pack.”

“The NFL continuously offers an ideal platform to reach a huge beer drinking base, which is why we're excited to debut brand new creative that highlights Bud Light's taste and reintroduces Bud Light Platinum," Andy Goeler, vp-marketing, Bud Light, said via the brand.

In “Bud Knight Platinum,” the King and his court head out for the evening, but ditch the Bud Light Knight in favor of hanging out with the new and improved Bud Light Platinum Knight.

The reason: “The King has a lot of friends. Some are old and the others . . . new and decidedly more platinum.”

In “Roofed-Top Bar,” the King and crew head off to an outdoor, glitzy rooftop Bud Light Platinum party in the castle, but make a wrong turn and end up in the darkest side of the castle — perhaps misdirected on purpose by the previously rejected Bud Light Knight..

Two 15-secnd spots, “Recline” and “Crispy”, show a relaxed Bud Light Knight enjoying the product, with a voiceover offering, “Crisp taste. Brewed with no corn syrup.”

According to Goeler, “We love being able to bring Platinum into the medieval world and highlight our new, premium packaging, while also continuing to showcase Bud Light's quality ingredients and crisp taste during NFL games this season."

The 13-game Thursday Night Football presented by Bud Light Platinum schedule begins Sept. 12 exclusively on NFL Network, with the full schedule including 11 games on Fox to be simulcast on NFL Network and Amazon Prime Video plus another NFL Network exclusive game.
