• Sacramento, California's capital city, has been awarded an MLS expansion team with Sacramento Republic FC becoming the league's 29th team and beginning play in MLS in 2022. The club will build a new, $300 million, 20,100-seat soccer stadium in the downtown Railyards District. 

• Octagon and the National Women’s Soccer League have signed a multi-tier consulting partnership, in which Octagon’s Global Media Rights Consulting and Marketing divisions will "advise the NWSL on its league media rights, sponsorship, and marketing." “The growth of the NWSL over the past six years has been tremendous, and the league, its teams and players show absolutely no sign of slowing down,” Christine Franklin, SVP, Marketing, Octagon, said via the firm.

• The Professional Baseball Agreement between MLB and minor league teams expires at the end of the 2020 season. But if a new MLB proposal were to become reality, more than three dozen cities with affiliated minor league teams will lose those teams a year from now and thousands of minor league players will be out of work as well. • Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here.

NFL 100th Season Kickoff Event Features Marketers, Meek Mill, Meghan Trainor

August 30, 2019: The NFL is planning to go big and go home-and-away to officially launch its 100th season with a major party on Sept. 5, the 2019 NFL Kickoff presented by EA Sports Madden NFL 20, which includes music, marketing, media partners, fans, players and its teams.

And while the festivities continue, the first regular season game of NFL 100, between the Green Bay Packers and host Chicago Bears.

In addition to presenting sponsor EA Sports Madden NFL 20, top-tier sponsors for NFL Kickoff include Bose, Bud Light, Microsoft, Pepsi, Pizza Hut, Snickers and Verizon.

Meek Mill, Meghan Trainor and Rapsody are scheduled to perform at a free pre-game concert at NFL Kickoff Experience in Chicago's Grant Park.

The kickoff to the league’s centennial season also includes the first initiative from the just-formed alliance between the NFL and Roc Nation, which will see the the launch of Inspire Change apparel and Songs of the Season.

Inspire Change apparel is a new social enterprise model that will fund and support Inspire Change programs across the country. 

Songs of the Season is a multi-tier, season-long initiative that will highlight superstars and emerging artists of all genres.

The Inspire Change apparel line, designed by artists, will be available later in the 2019 season.

According to Roc Nation, Songs of the Season is a multi-tier, season-long initiative that will highlight superstars and emerging artists of all genres. Songs of the Season will showcase musicians that will create and deliver a song to be integrated in all NFL promotions each month during the season.

The songs will debut during an in-game broadcast and will be simultaneously released to all digital streaming platforms (DSPs) worldwide.

Roc Nation said that all proceeds from the songs would go toward Inspire Change.

A portion of Meek Mill and Meghan Trainor's performances — who have been named the first Inspire Change advocates for the 2019 NFL season along with Rapsody — will be featured in simulcast coverage of the 40-minute pre-game Kickoff Experience presented by EA Sports Madden NFL 20 show on NBC and NFL Network (7:30 PM – 8:10 PM ET).

Meanwhile. the defending Super Bowl LIII champion New England Patriots “will celebrate the real NFL season kickoff “ via celebration hosted by Pepsi outside Gillette Stadium.

Pepsi will give away a limited-edition New England Patriots laces-shaped can designed to honor the Super Bowl LIII champions.

There will be a mainstage performance by country music star Chris Lane. The Lombardi Trophy will also be on-site as will Patriots players.

Those attending the event will have the chance to win autographed merchandise, plus tickets to the Patriots home opener on Sept. 8.

In Chicago,  the Madden NFL 20 Experience at Grant Park will host such scheduled NFL Legends as Michael Vick and Chad Johnson.

Twitch streamers and others will compete in the first EA Sports Madden NFL Twitch Prime Crown Cup.

The Green Bay-Chicago game will be shown live on giant screens situated  throughout Grant Park.

Proceeds from the NFL-Roc Nation venture will support organizations committed to the key priorities of Inspire Change: education and economic empowerment, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform.
