NFL Marketing Partners Line Up For 'Opening Kickoff' Party
August 12, 2009: The NFL will open its 90th season on Sept. 10 when the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers host the Tennessee Titans, with a pre-game kickoff celebration supported by a plethora of marketing partners, many of whom will unveil their NFL-related marketing strategies.
The 30-minute "NFL Opening Kickoff 2009 Presented by EA Sports" will air on NBC and NFL Network as well as NFL Mobile Live from Sprint. The pre-game celebration will feature performances by Tim McGraw and The Black Eyed Peas. In addition to EA Sports, top tier sponsors for the NFL’s Kickoff platform include Coors Light, GMC, Pepsi and Sprint; associate sponsors include Gatorade, Monster and Visa. The concert and other activities will be at Point State Park and is open to the public. The game will be shown on NBC from Heinz Field.
The NFL this season also is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the launch of the American Football League (which actually began in 1960). The Titans franchise was among the original AFL teams, then playing as the Houston Oilers.
This is the sixth consecutive year the NFL has saluted the Super Bowl champions with the opening game in their stadium on a Thursday in primetime. Last year's event featured the New York Giants hosting the Washington Redskins, with pre=game performances from Keith Urban and Usher.
