No Offseason In NFL: League, Marketers, Media Prepare For 2019 Scouting Combine

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

February 23, 2019: It’s been three weeks since Super Bowl LIII and as it readies for its year-long 100th anniversary celebration, the NFL has managed to stay in the news, for good and bad reasons.

Off the field, Super Bowl champion New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is facing charges of solicitation in Florida, which officials say is linked to a larger and dangerous human trafficking situation under investigation.

On the field, the league is anticipating the 2019 season this week with the NFL Scouting Combine Presented by Verizon from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Coverage for incoming players will be intense for the event, which begins Feb. 27, with player workouts scheduled to start March 1.

NFL Media will offer 50 hours of live Combine week coverage, with members of the 2019 NFL Draft class expected to include quarterbacks led by Heisman Trophy Kyler Murray,  Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock and Daniel Jones; and top defensive prospects Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, Rashan Gary and Greedy William.

Live coverage of 2019 NFL Scouting Combine Presented by Verizon on-field drills begins March 1 with running backs, offensive linemen and special teams.

March 2 will see quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends.

Defensive linemen and linebackers  are the focus March 3 and defensive backs on March 4.

Coverage of workouts begins at 9 AM (ET) Friday, Sunday and Monday; 10 AM (ET) Saturday on NFL Network and NFL.com.

For the first time, overage of the quarterback and wide receiver workouts will also be available on ABC on March 2 (1-3 PM ET).

Live NFL Network coverage of the 2019 NFL Combine Presented by Verizon is available across devices (smartphone, PC, tablet and connected TVs) through the NFL app or NFL.com/watch for subscribers of participating NFL Network providers.

Full NFL Network audio simulcast coverage will be carried live on the TuneIn app. Additionally, SiriusXM's NFL Radio will be broadcasting live from Indianapolis all week. (Details here.)

NFL Network’s “Path to the Draft” will take an inside look at the NFL Scouting Combine on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28.

For the 15th year, at the close of the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine Presented by Verizon, Rich Eisen will run the 40-yard dash. As it did last year “Run Rich Run” will benefit the NFL PLAY 60 alliance with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Since 2012, NFL PLAY 60 has been the “official champion of play”  at St. Jude, helping to give all kids the chance to play.

NFL Network will donate $50,000 to the cause.

Courtyard by Marriott has also generously pledged donations to help support play therapy at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

People can show their support by donating to the cause while demonstrating their own athleticism by submitting videos of themselves running the 40-yard dash.
