NFL, Fans, Players Rolling Toward Nashville To Get Caught In The Draft, Experience

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

March 18, 2019:
The NFL is ready for the 2019 Draft April 25-27 and wants players, marketers and fans to be ready, as well.

The NFL and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp today unveiled plans for the 2019 NFL Draft Experience, presented by Oikos Triple Zero, a free three-day football festival held outside of Nissan Stadium.

The event will be populated by numerous NFL marketing partners, including Bridgestone, Bud Light, Dannon, FedEx, Ford, Lowe's, Mars, Nationwide, Pepsi, Pizza Hut, Sleep Number, Verizon and Visa.

According to the league, "The Experience will be the largest NFL Draft festival footprint to date, and in recognition of Music City, will be the first to integrate a free live music concert series featuring 20 Nashville-based artists of all genres."

"We're excited to show NFL fans from around the country why there's no better place for the Draft than Music City," Steve Underwood, president and CEO for the host Tennessee Titans, said via the team.

"Along with the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp., and some of Tennessee's most talented artists, musicians and businesses, we'd like to welcome the NFL family to our team's hometown."

What do the Draft, Experience and other events mean to Nashville?

The 2018 Draft generated $125.2 million in economic impact for the Dallas region during the three-day event, including $74 million in direct spending. That marked the first time that the NFL Draft has generated more than $125 million in economic impact for its host region, according to a report compiled by VisitDallas.

A record crowd of more than 100,000 fans attended the opening day of the 2018 Draft and the NFL Draft Experience on April 26, making it the highest-ever attendance for the opening day. Overall, more than 200,000 fans attended the three-day event.

In 2017,  Draft and related events attendance was 250,000 over the three-day event, resulting in an estimated $94.9 million in economic impact for Philadelphia, according to the NFL Draft Event Impact Report, commissioned by the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau and conducted by Temple University's Sport Industry Research Center.

In 2015 and 2016, when the NFL Draft was in Chicago, the NFL draft generated about $81 million in total economic impact in 2015 and 2016 and crowds estimated at 200,000, according to Temple University's Sports Industry Research Institute,

In Nashville, Grammy-winner Tim McGraw, who serves on the Nashville Local Organizing Committee for the Nashville Draft, will headline the concert series at the Draft Main Stage in downtown Nashville.

Among the Experience events planned:

• Interactive games, football clinics, and PLAY 60 Zone presented by Danimals

• Pepsi NFL helmet photo opportunity

• Taste of Tailgate with Nashville restaurants and Bud Light bars

• NFL Shop presented by Visa

According to Peter O'Reilly, NFL evp-club business and league events, “Each year, the NFL strives to make the Draft weekend a memorable experience for our fans.

“The passionate fan base and iconic location will ensure a unique experience that is unlike anything fans have ever seen.”

The NFL said that people can follow the NFL Draft 2019 with the Fan Mobile Pass app, which will be available in early/mid-April. (Details here.)
