NFL Players Join Carrie Underwood For 2018 NBC 'Sunday Night Football' Opener

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

July 30, 2018:
NBC has unveiled the roster of NFL players who will be part of the 2018 Sunday Night Football on NBC opening sequence, trying to sing, dance and entertain alongside Carrie Underwood.

The ten players include four from the Super Bowl LII champion Philadelphia Eagles: QB Carson Wentz, OT Lane Johnson, TE Zach Ertz and DT Fletcher Cox.

The other six players come from six different NFL teams: Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff, Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown and Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

The Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL 2018 season opener in a NBC Sunday Night special edition game on Thursday, Sept. 6.

There also will be a special Thursday night game on Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 22. (Full schedule below.)

Of the ten players, NBC said only three have previously appeared in Sunday Night Football opening sequences: Prescott, Brown and Wilson.

The ten players have accounted for 19 Pro Bowl selections, five Super Bowl rings and four first-round draft picks.

The opener was filmed during the summer.

Sunday Night Fooball finished the 2017-18 TV season as primetime’s No. 1 TV show in all key metrics for an unprecedented seventh consecutive year – breaking a tie with American Idol for the most consecutive years atop the charts (since 1950), according to NBC.

Sunday Night Football also ranked as the No. 1 show in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic for the eighth consecutive TV season.
