• NBC Sports Nascar analyst Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife Amy, an interior designer, "will transform a dilapidated 150-year-old historic home in Key West, Fla., into a gorgeous coastal retreat" in DIY Network’s new series, Renovation Realities: Dale Jr. & Amy. The four-episode series premieres Saturday, June 2.

• The National September 11 Memorial & Museum and NHL Hall of Famer Mark Messier announced a new special exhibition, “Comeback Season: Sports After 9/11,” which explores how “sports and athletes helped to unite the country, console a grieving nation and give us a reason to cheer again following the 2001 attacks.” Opens June 27. • Athletes First, a sports agency that represents such athletes as Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthew, Nick Foles, Josh Norman, Jamaal Charles and Deshaun Watson; and coaches including Jason Garrett and Urban Meyer, is launching Athletes First Partners (A1P), an international sales and marketing services company.

A1P's said its first client is Think450, the for-profit subsidiary of the National Basketball Players Assn., for which it would “help monetize collective sponsorship, licensing and content opportunities” on behalf of the 450 professional NBA players the Union represents.

QB Stafford Joins Football HOFs Rice, Young In Van Heusen Marketing Playbook

September 12, 2012: If you are a young quarterback in the NFL, it may be harder to find two better mentors than Steve Young and Jerry Rice when it comes to looks and style.

Matthew Stafford, now in his third season as quarterback for the Detroit Lions, will have that opportunity. Stafford is joining the Hall of Famers for the 2012 Van Heusen "Institute of Style" campaign, which will include such elements as TV, print, POP and digital, the latter anchored by a “Style in Training” sweepstakes at Van Heusen's Facebook page.

The media buy includes ESPN, NBC Sports, NFL Network, GQ and ESPN the Magazine, with additional campaign elements will be unveiled during the course of the NFL season.

At the Institute of Style, the 23-year-old Stafford will advance from trainee to graduate under the auspices of Young and Rice, who are veterans of the Van Heusen campaign.

The scenario will use feature a series of playbooks intended to help consumers improve their style, including "Improving Your Field Position," (looks appropriate for the office) and "Double Your Coverage" (the best ways to layer sweaters, shirts and ties), according to Van Heusen.

At Van Heusen’s Facebook page, visitors can enter the Style in Training sweepstakes, offering such prizes as a three-day trip to New York, which comes with an Institute of Style transformation, and tickets and sideline passes to NFL games. (Full details here.)

Young was an NFL quarterback from 1985-99, the majority with the San Francisco 49ers. Rice was a wide receiver for the 49ers for 15 of his 19 NFL seasons and was Young's teammate when San Francisco won Super Bowls XXIII, XXIV and XXIX.

Stafford played in three games during this rookie year, but last season started all 16 games for the Lions. He passed for more then 5,000 years with 41 TDs and helped to lead the team to the playoffs with a 10-6 record, Detroit's first winning season since 2000.

Van Heusen envisions Stafford targeting young males.
