The NFL has been planning major events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the league, and the just concluded Draft was a record-setting event.

The league said its 2019 NFL Draft established records in media consumption and fan attendance, including a combined 3.9 HH TV rating and average of 6.1M viewers across NFL, ESPN and ABC TV and digital channels.

Attendance was put at more than 600,000.

That makes it the highest-rated and most-watched Draft in NFL history, breaking records established last year.

In total, all NFL Draft telecasts combined to reach more than 47.5 million viewers over the three-day event, up +5% vs. 2018.

Initial interest was spurred by the situation regarding Kyler Murray and whether or not the Arizona Cardinals would take the quarterback out of Oklahoma with the No. 1 overall pick, which they did.

"The 2019 NFL Draft featured the broadest ever distribution of official NFL Draft video with NFL Network, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes in addition to NFL and ESPN digital and social properties,” according to the league.

“This was the second straight year that all seven rounds of the live, three-day event were aired on broadcast television.”

The collaborative distribution approach across NFL Media and The Walt Disney Company helped grow the combined rating and viewership by +11% and +8%, respectively, over 2018. via the NFL.

Numbers still to be tallied: the economic impact of the NFL Draft on Nashville.

Butch Spyridon, CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation, told local media he believes visitor spending will total between $80-$100 million.

The 2018 NFL Draft, held in AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys, was the first hosted in an NFL stadium.

The event generated a NFL Draft record $125.2 million in economic impact and $74 million in direct spending for the Dallas region during and around April 26-28.

The numbers were unveiled by the NFL based on an economic impact report compiled by VisitDallas, using Destinations International's economic impact calculator.

The $125.2 million topped the previous mark of $95 million set during the 2017 NFL Draft in Philadelphia.

The 2020 NFL Draft, scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, could establish new marks yet again.

In Nashville, in addition to media consumption, the 2019 NFL Draft broke records for attendance, with more than 600,000 people, topping the 250,000 record in 2017 in Philadelphia.

”The 2019 NFL Draft was a tremendous continuation of the celebration of the NFL's 100th season and an opportunity to welcome the next generation of stars," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said via the league.

"Dramatic and emotional storylines played out in cities across the country with the energetic host city of Nashville serving as a breathtaking backdrop to hundreds of thousands of passionate fans who lined the streets and enjoyed a unique NFL Draft Experience.”
