NFL Players Assn., President Obama Unite For PSA Effort

Kurt Warner in NFLPA PSA.July 23, 2009: The NFL Players Assn. is unveiling a national PSA campaign that features President Barack Obama and more than 30 NFL players to "encourage Americans to answer the President and First Lady's call to service and make a difference in their communities."

The effort, part of the First Family's "United We Stand" initiative, includes appearances by Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, Kevin Carter, Derrick Brooks, Brian Dawkins, Chris Draft, Kevin Mawae, Shaun O'Hara, Chester Pitts and James Thrash, as well as NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith. The PSA was created and produced by the NFLPA in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service, Washington, D.C. Versions of the spot will run in 60-, 30- and 15-second segments. Print and Internet will support.

"The players of the National Football League have a unique opportunity to serve as role models — both on and off the field — and I applaud them for answering the call to service through United We Serve," President Obama said in a statement. "Their example proves that anyone, whether the toughest of athletes or the youngest of fans, has what it takes to make a difference in the life of their communities and their country."

Along with a call to action from President Obama, the PSA features behind-the-scenes footage of NFL players as they explain how they are "all part of one team both at home and in the community." The PSA shows players working in hospitals, at youth centers, serving food to the homeless and rebuilding their communities. They then encouraging "every American to participate in President Obama's call to service by exploring volunteer opportunities" available at www.Serve.gov.
