NFL Names Mark Waller First CMO
September 9, 2009: The NFL said that Mark Waller has been named the first CMO in the league's history, and also that Keith Turner has joined the NFL as svp-media sales and sponsorship.
Waller joined the NFL as svp-international in 2006, among other duties overseeing the growth of the NFL's International Series. In 2007 he became svp-sales and marketing, with added duties. As CMO, Waller will continue to oversee the international business and will also be responsible for creating an integrated marketing function that operates across all NFL platforms and properties, including NFL Ventures, NFL Network and NFL.com. According to the league, Waller "will work closely with sponsors, network partners, advertisers and licensees to ensure that the NFL brand is consistently presented in alignment with our goals. In addition to his responsibility for the NFL brand, marketing, promotions and creative across all entities." Prior to joining the league, Waller spent 17 years at spirits company Diageo, most recently as evp-consumer strategy & marketing for North America.
Turner joins the NFL from direct-response advertising firm Mercury Media, where he was vice chairman. Previously, he served as president of sales & marketing for NBC Universal from 1998-2006, where he headed sales and marketing efforts for NBC, NBC’s Olympics and NBC Universal cable networks Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, Sci Fi, Telemundo and USA, as well as iVillage. Before joining NBC in 1987, Turner held positions with CBS and Grey Advertising.
With the NFL, Turner will be responsible for advertising sales on NFL media platforms (NFL Network, NFL.com and NFL Mobile) and national sponsorship programs that integrate all media assets, including commitments to NFL network TV partners. Back to Home Page
