Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.

NHL Says 'Puck You' To 2012, Now Dangerously Close To Shutting Down 2013

By Barry Janoff

December 10, 2012: If you are a fan or marketing partner of the NHL, there will be coal in your Xmas stocking this year instead of ice and Zambonis.

The on-going conflict between the league and the NHL Players Assn. has led to the cancellation of more games, this time through Dec. 30.

Added to the games already cancelled, the NHL has lost 526 regular-season matches — 42.8% of the season — that were scheduled from Oct. 11-Dec. 30.

Already cancelled as well were two of the NHL's crown jewel events: the Bridgestone Winter Classic (Jan. 1) and the All-Star Game (Jan.  27)

The NHL cancelled its entire 2004-05 season also due to problems in negotiating a collective bargaining agreement.

The league said it realizes the time to salvage the 2012-13 is dangerously close to running out.

''When it gets to the point where we can't play a season with integrity, with a representative schedule, then we'll be done."

''When it gets to the point where we can't play a season with integrity, with a representative schedule, then we'll be done,'' NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told the media late last week. ''If you go back in history, in [1994-95], I think we played 48 games. I can't imagine wanting to play fewer than that.''

Bettman earlier said that the lockout was costing the league and owners $18-$20 million a day and costing players $8-$10 million day.
