Nike Golf Jumps On Tiger Redux With New Spot

Feb. 23, 2009: Nike Golf this week will unveil "The Good Life," a TV spot that coincides with the return of Tiger Woods to competition and humorously shows the impact that his absence had on golf. The spot, via Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Ore., will break Feb. 25 on ESPN, ESPN News and The Golf Channel, to coincide with Woods' return to active play at the Accenture Match Play Championship following knee surgery. The Golf Channel, which will air the first three days of the Accenture event, said it would run the spot immediately preceding Tiger’s first tee shot in round one of the Accenture. The humorous spot opens with two golf announcers referring to Woods' knee surgery and subsequent absence from the tour. One asks, "With Tiger out, what's going to happen?" The other responds, "It's going to be very different." Numerous scenes following with Nike Golf athletes Stewart Cink, Trevor Immelman, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard and Carl Petterssen, who are seen winning tournaments, getting cover stories on magazines and enjoying the perks that come with being on top, all of which are played out to the song “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows,” performed by Lesley Gore. But the song stops and the mood changes when the guys are in locker room and Tiger walks in. "Hey guys," Woods offers. "Hey Tiger, welcome back," they respond, realizing that their party is over. "This ad celebrates a significant moment in sport with Tiger’s return, but it also frames the winning successes that our Nike Golf athletes enjoyed in 2008,” Cindy Davis, president of Nike Golf, said in a statement.
