New Nike "Puppet" Spot Celebrates Lakers NBA Title

June 19, 2009: Nike's Kobe Bryant "Most Valuable Puppet" gets to celebrate the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA title in "Championship" a new spot that seemingly culminates the storyline that began at the start of the NBA playoffs. The Kobe puppet is in the apartment shared by the faux Bryant and LeBron James wearing a T-shirt and hat in Lakers blue and gold with the word "Champs" on them. As music blares and confetti flies around, Kobe screams, "Number four. Champions. This is the best. Here we go, baby!" Then he sees LeBron eating breakfast and the music, confetti and celebration stops. "Morning, LeBron," says a subdued Kobe, who is now wearing a bathrobe to cover the "Champs" T-shirt. "Morning, Kobe," replies a somber James, who is munching on a bowl of Fruity Pebbles. But the celebration continues in the next room as music and confetti again pour over Kobe as LeBron looks on and shakes his head. No word from Nike yet as to whether the storyline, via Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Ore., will continue next season.
