• Puma, which is rebooting its hoops division with the signing of potential top NBA draft picks Deandre Jordan and Michael Bagley III to shoe deals, said it has named producer/musician/businessman Jay-Z as president of basketball operations. The company said it has been working with Jay-Z run Roc Nation “for quite some time.” In addition, Hall of Famer Walt "Clyde" Frazier, a Puma partner for its first signature shoe in the 1970’s and long-time endorser, has signed a lifetime contract with the shoe brand.

• Panini America has signed an exclusive autograph trading card memorabilia agreement with All-American point guard Trae Young, a projected Top Ten pick in this week's 2018 NBA Draft. Young led the nation in both scoring (27.4 ppg) and assists (8.8 apg) during a his freshman season with the University of Oklahoma.

• Xyience said it would be an official sponsor and the official energy drink for the 2018 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken, a premier  occer tournament featuring top clubs and players from Europe. The ICC runs from July 20- Aug. 7 and includes 17 matches played across 14 U.S. cities. (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and SiriusXM.) Sponsors also  include Heineken, Ally, Hertz, MasterCard, Gatorade, Konami and Vivid Seats.

Nike, John McEnroe Tennis Academy Swing Corporate Partnership Deal

June 21, 2010: Nike has agreed to become the first official corporate partner of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, which will open in mid-September at the new $19 million Sportime at Randall’s Island in New York.

The partnership is for a minimum of five years.  Financial terms were not disclosed.

Under terms of the deal, Nike will be the official athletic apparel and sneakers for staff and students at the Academy. Nike also will get signage and other marketing perks.

McEnroe said the Academy would now initiate discussions with potential presenting partners and with other key category sponsors. "Our goal is to provide over $1 million of financial aid on an annual basis to many talented young people, some of whom could become that next new face of American tennis — New York faces," McEnroe said in a statement.

McEnroe will personally supervise two tryouts in July open to boys and girls under 16 years old who are interested in attending the McEnroe Academy when it opens in September. Boys attending the tryouts and making the initial cut on July 14 will also be invited to watch McEnroe’s New York Sportimes World TeamTennis play that night against Andy Roddick and the Philadelphia Freedoms.  On July 19, girls who make the initial tryout cut will be invited to watch McEnroe and defending U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters take on Martina Hingis and the World TeamTennis New York Buzz. 

"John McEnroe's relationship with Nike has lasted for more than 30 years, and Nike's commitment to John and to American tennis is reflected in their substantial underwriting commitment through 2014,” said Mike Nakajima, Nike director of tennis marketing, said in a statement. “Nike's financial commitment, further supported by Nike product for Academy coaches and students, will enable the Academy to expand its scholarship program and to attract the most deserving and promising students regardless of their financial resources.”

According to McEnroe, “I am truly pleased that Nike is our first key partner for the Academy. [Nike co-founder and chairman] “Phil Knight has been a visionary and a maverick in worlds of business and sports.  And he has been a good friend to me.  His belief in this project and his support means a lot."

Sportime opened on Randall's Island less than a year ago and is the flagship of Sportime’s 13 tennis fitness and sports clubs across New York State. The tennis stadium can seat up to 2,500.
