By Barry Janoff
September 30, 2019: MLB and MLB Players Assn. have released the list of top-selling jerseys for the 2019 season, and for the third consecutive year the No. 99 jersey of Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees comes in at No. 1.
The No. 3 jersey of Bryce Harper, who joined the Philadelphia Phillies from the Washington Nationals this season, was No. 2.
Rankings are based on sales from MLBShop.com of Majestic jerseys since the start of the 2019 season. Financial figures were not disclosed.
Coming into Philadelphia with a new 13-year, $330 million contract, Harper topped the list of MLB Most Popular Player Jerseys based on sales from MLBShop.com of Majestic jerseys from New Year’s Day thru Opening Day (March 28).
MLB said for the first time since player jersey rankings have been released that the nine most popular players are all under the age of 30.
Pete Alonzo of the New York Mets is the top rookie on the list at No. 14. He was the 2019 T-Mobile Home Run Derby champion and MLB home run leader, setting a record for homers in a season by a rookie with 53.
Among the players who showed the most gain versus the 2018 list, Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers was not on the list during his 2018 NL MVP season but was No. 5 on this year's list.
Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers went from No. 15 on last year's list to No. 3, and Atlanta Braves Ronald Acuña Jr. went from No. 20 in 2018 to No. 6 in '19.
