Former A-B Marketing Exec Tony Ponturo Becomes Chairman Of Leverage Agency

Tony PonturoMay 1, 2009: Tony Ponturo, a major mover and shaker in sports marketing during his nearly three decades with Anheuser-Busch and now CEO of Ponturo Management Group, has signed a deal to become an equity partner and chairman of the board of New York-based marketing and sponsorship firm Leverage Agency. Financial terms were not revealed. Leverage, New York, headed by CEO and founder Ben Sturner, oversees such accounts as KFC, AVP, Spira Footwear, ACIS and ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. Leverage also is handling naming rights for the Hilton Theater in New York's Times Square in conjunction with the upcoming show, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, with music from Bono and The Edge of U2, which is scheduled to open February 2010. From 1991-2008, Ponturo was president and CEO of Busch Media Group and the vp-global media, sports and entertainment marketing of Anheuser-Busch, where he oversaw more than $700 million in media, sports and entertainment properties annually. After leaving A-B in November, he formed Ponturo Management Group, New York, a consulting, management and investment company in media, sports and entertainment. The addition of Ponturo adds major clout to Leverage's already high profile. "I'm very excited to be working with Tony and to have him become a key part of our organization," said Sturner.
