May 14, 2009: It has not been confirmed whether or not David Letterman will make a personal appearance at the 93rd Indianapolis 500 May 24, but the Rahal Letterman Racing team will return after securing a new lead sponsor. RLR has signed a one-year deal with DAFCA, Framingham, Mass., a tech company that provides security services against cyber terrorism, and will put veteran Spanish driver Oriol Servia into the field. Financial terms were not disclosed. This will be the first IndyCar Series race of the year for RLR, which had been sponsored by the U.S. ethanol industry. Those ties were severed when the Indy Racing League signed a deal with a Brazilan-based supplier of ethanol. Servia started 25th in last year's Indy 500 and finished 11th. Among his numerous accomplishments, Rahal won the 1986 Indy 500 as a driver, and his team won another Indy title in 2004 with driver Buddy Rice. RLR's biggest splash may have been in 2005 when rookie driver Danica Patrick competed in the Indy 500 for RLR. Patrick at one point became the first woman driver ever to hold the lead in the iconic race, eventually finishing fourth and later that year earning the IndyCar Series rookie of the year honors.
