June 25, 2019: The Oakland Raiders, playing their last season in the Bay Area before a planned move to Las Vegas for the 2020 NFL season, said they have signed a deal with AEG Facilities to operate their $2 billion, 65,000-seat stadium, now under construction.
AEG Facilities is a stand-alone division of global sports, venue and live entertainment company AEG.
Under what was called a “comprehensive management agreement,” AEG Facilities would be responsible for the stadium’s operations, with the venue scheduled to open in August 2020.
That would begin with providing such pre-opening functions as overseeing the hiring and training of the venue’s full-time staff and planning and executing the stadium’s grand opening schedule of events and activities.
They would also manage key departments including guest services, event operations, booking, security, ticketing, finance and human resources.
Financial terms were not released.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with one of sports’ most recognizable, successful and iconic international brands and with a city known as the ‘sports and entertainment capital of the world’ in a stadium destined to set new standards for the fan experience that will be created,” Bob Newman, president for AEG Facilities, said via the Los Angeles-based firm.
“The addition of the Las Vegas Stadium into our global stadia network will provide immediate opportunities to bring new high-profile events to Las Vegas to take advantage of the incredible new stadium and a City that knows how to deliver best in class experiences and events.
The 2020 NFL Draft will be held in Las Vegas in April, but there was no word on how AEG Facilities would be part of the activation.
AEG Facilities already has a presence in Las Vegas with T-Mobile Arena.
The stadium, currently without a naming-rights partner, would be home to the Raiders and the University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels, moving over from local Sam Boyd Stadium.
The recently unveiled annual college football Las Vegas Bowl will feature a Pac-12 team against an opponent from either the SEC or Big Ten Conferences.
Raiders ownership and AEG Facilities are eying the venue as a destination for other big games and entertainment events, with an upcoming Super Bowl among the major prizes.
The next available NFL title game would be Super Bowl LVIX in 2025.
Among the venues worldwide that AEG Facilities owns, operates or provides services to are Staples Center and Microsoft Theater (Los Angeles), Sprint Center (Kansas City, Mo.), KFC Yum! Center (Louisville, AmericanAirlines Arena (Miami), Barclays Center (Brooklyn, NY), Target Center (Minneapolis), PPG Paints Arena (Pittsburgh), Mercedes-Benz Arena (Shanghai, China), Cadillac Arena (Beijing, China), The O2 (London, England) and Mercedes-Benz Arena (Berlin).
