NBA Energized By Pact With Reliant For All-Star Weekend In Houston

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

December 10, 2012: The NBA has signed a deal with Reliant, an energy provider based in Houston, to support several events that will take place during NBA All-Star Weekend in the city this February.

Financial terms of the alliance were not disclosed.

All-Star Weekend is scheduled for Feb. 13-15, 2013, with the game itself to be played in Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets.

The company has a significant presence in the city, with naming rights to Reliant Stadium (pictured below), home of the NFL's Houston Texans.

Among its activations, Reliant will have a presence at NBA All-Star Jam Session in the George R. Brown Convention Center, the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service  and the NBA All-Star 5K Race, where Reliant will be an associate partner.

“Reliant is a long-standing fixture in the Houston community,” Mark Tatum, NBA evp-global marketing partnerships, said in a statement.  “We’re thrilled to be working with them to provide a world class basketball experience for Houston, while leaving a lasting impact on the city.”

According to Karen Jones, CMO for Reliant. “We’re thrilled to be a part of bringing NBA All-Star players and legends to Houston as we’re always looking for opportunities to support events that match our customers’ and community’s interests. Because of our great relationship with the Houston Rockets, supporting the NBA for the All-Star weekend activities came as a perfect fit.”

Reliant said it provides electricity, energy services and smart energy solutions to more than 1.5 million retail customers in Texas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
