• Octagon and the National Women’s Soccer League have signed a multi-tier consulting partnership, in which Octagon’s Global Media Rights Consulting and Marketing divisions will "advise the NWSL on its league media rights, sponsorship, and marketing." “The growth of the NWSL over the past six years has been tremendous, and the league, its teams and players show absolutely no sign of slowing down,” Christine Franklin, SVP, Marketing, Octagon, said via the firm.

• The Professional Baseball Agreement between MLB and minor league teams expires at the end of the 2020 season. But if a new MLB proposal were to become reality, more than three dozen cities with affiliated minor league teams will lose those teams a year from now and thousands of minor league players will be out of work as well. • Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here.

Ronda, Rock Helped Pile-Drive WWE WrestleMania 31 To $139M Financial Impact

November 5, 2015: WrestleMania is big business, not just for parent company WWE but for the regions in which the annual wrestle-fest is held.

The latest case in point: WrestleMania 31, held this past March in Levi's Stadium, home of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, generated $139 million in economic impact for the Santa Clara/San Jose region, according to a study conducted by the Enigma Research Corporation, Toronto.

That included  $22 million spent on hotels and accommodations within the Santa Clara/San Jose region.

WrestleMania 31 also generated approximately $23.2 million in federal, state and local taxes.

WWE said it was the highest-grossing event in its history, with a revenue of $12.6 million.
 
Levi's Stadium seats about 68,500. Attendance was given as 76,976.

According to WWE, this marks the second-largest economic impact in WrestleMania history, and the fourth consecutive year that WrestleMania generated more than $100 million in economic impact for its host region.

WrestleMania 30, held in Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, had an attendance of 75,167 and a $142.2 million economic impact on the region, according to WWE.

WrestleMania 32, scheduled for April 3, 2016, in AT&T Stadium in North Texas, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, may approach that $140 million figure, according to local industry analysts.

WrestleMania 31 was bolstered by the "unannounced" participation of UFC champion Ronda Rousey and wrestling icon (and Hollywood star) Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson. The pair took down their "arch rivals," Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, in a confrontation that continued what has been billed as an on-going feud, which the participants vowed has not ended.
 
Over the past nine years, WrestleMania has generated more than $700 million in cumulative economic impact for the cities that have hosted the event, per WWE.

Among other details, WWE said that at WrestleMania 31:

• 78% of fans that attended WrestleMania were from outside the greater Santa Clara/San Jose region and stayed an average of 3.3 nights. About 30% stayed five nights or more.

• The economic impact derived from WrestleMania Week was equal to the creation of 1,218 full-time jobs for the area.

• $6.2 million was spent by visitors to the Santa Clara/San Jose region at area restaurants.

"We are proud that WrestleMania continues to deliver an incredible economic benefit for its host region,” John Saboor, evp-special events for WWE, said in a statement. "Our WrestleMania Week success in the Bay Area would not have been possible without the support of Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, the San Francisco 49ers and countless other public and private sector partners that embraced WWE’s worldwide fan base."

Recent venues have included MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ (WrestleMania 29, attendance 80,676); Sun Life Stadium, Miami (WrestleMania 28, attendance 78,363); and the Georgia Dome, Atlanta (WrestleMania 27, attendance 71,617).

WrestleMania 32 will be broadcast live on WWE Network in more than 175 countries.

"We are excited with the planning that is already underway with our new partners in the Dallas/Arlington area for WrestleMania 32," said Saboor.
