NFL, Pepsi, Roc Nation Bringing Shakira, JLo To Super Bowl LIV Halfttime Show

By Barry Janoff

September 26, 2019: The NFL and Pepsi today unveiled Jennifer Lopez and Shakira as the stars for the Super Bowl LIV Pepsi Halftime Show in Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Fla.

The Halftime Show and the game will air on Fox, Feb. 2, 2020.

Pepsi and the NFL said they collaborated with Roc Nation, under a recently signed deal, “to bring these two icons together for the first time ever, for what will be an unforgettable performance on the world's biggest stage.”

“This is happening. 02.02.20,” Lopez posted to her social media accounts.

“Get ready 02.02.20,” offered Shakira via social media. “It doesn’t get any bigger than this! So excited about getting on that #SuperBowlLIV #PepsiHalftime stage w @Jlo.”

Pepsi this month extended its role as Super Bowl Halftime Show presenting sponsor through 2022, adding to its record as the longest-tenured brand to hold that position.

Pepsi was halftime sponsor for Super Bowl XLI (2007, Prince), and then every year since Super Bowl XLVII (2013, replacing Bridgestone, which had it for five consecutive Big Games), including Pepsi Zero Sugar as Super Bowl LI halftime sponsor.

In August, the NFL signed an alliance with Roc Nation, the multi-platform entertainment, sports, management and philanthropic agency under the auspices of Sean Carter — better known as businessman and musical artist and producer Jay-Z — to become the league’s “live music entertainment strategist.”

His wife, Beyoncé Knowles, starred during halftime shows at Super Bowl XLVII (2013) and 50 (2016).

Nearly 100 million viewers tuned in the Pepsi Halftime Show during Super Bowl LIII this past February (with Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi).

Past halftime performances have also included Prince, the Rolling Stones, U2, The Who, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Tom Petty and Paul McCartney.

"Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the (Super Bowl XXX 1996) Halftime Show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl," JLo said via Roc Nation.

"And now it's made even more special not only because it's the NFL's 100th anniversary, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can't wait to show what us girls can do on the world's biggest stage."

According to Shakira, "I'm so honored to be taking on one of the world's biggest stages in the company of a fellow female artist to represent Latinos and Latinas from the U.S. and all over the world — and to top it off, on my birthday (born Feb. 2, 1977).

"This is a true American dream and we are going to bring the show of a lifetime!"

The Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show telecast will be produced by NFL Network with Ricky Kirshner serving as executive producer and Hamish Hamilton serving as director.

Roc Nation will serve as producers and strategic entertainment advisors of the live performance.

The NFL and Pepsi said that people can expect “unprecedented access to the making of pop culture's biggest event and should stay tuned for more details” by following Pepsi on social media.
