Selena Gomez Gets Starring Role In WNBA Post-Season Coverage On ESPN

By Barry Janoff

September 19, 2013: If Justin Bieber is still pining for Selena Gomez he should avoid watching the WNBA post-season across ESPN's broadcast platform.

Gomez may only be 5'5" tall, but she will be as big as Candace Parker (6'4"), Elena Delle Donne (6'5") and Brittney Griner (6'8") when the WNBA post-season begins tonight via month-long coverage on ESPN.

ESPN said that Gomez's song, "Like a Champion," would be used to open every telecast. Custom performance footage was shot in London for a video open that includes ESPN/WNBA co-branding integrated with the singer/actress.

ESPN said the footage would also be used in highlight packages and coming in from and out of commercial breaks. (See the full spot here.)

"Walk Like A Champion" includes the lyrics: "Walk like a champion, talk like a champion/Tonight we come alive/Stand up cause you got that pride/Dancin' and the sweat don't dry/Once shot, so baby hit it right/No doubt 'cause we're young and free/Walk like you run the city/Write your name in the sky/Live it up, cause baby it's your time."

ESPN plans to air as many as 17 post-season games, including coverage of the Eastern and Western Conference Finals and the WNBA Finals 2013 Presented by Boost Mobile. The WNBA playoffs also will air on NBA TV.

ESPN2’s exclusive coverage of the Eastern and Western Conference Finals is scheduled to begin on Sept. 26. The best-of-five WNBA Finals 2013 are scheduled to start on Oct. 6.

espnW.com will supplement ESPN’s schedule with live coverage and analysis throughout the WNBA post-season. In addition, ESPN said that all games would be accessible online at WatchESPN.com and via smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app.

The WNBA post-season can also be seen via ESPN on Xbox LIVE to gold members and on Apple TV to customers who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.

Several players are expected to blog during the post-season, including Tamika Catchings, Elena Delle Donne, Angel McCoughtry, Maya Moore, Candace Parker and Diana Taurasi.
